Sorry about the last post... problems with the vi editor.

I have a couple of questions. I am currently ranked Magician in the
mage's guild. (3 promotions above apprentice) i want to be able to
use the cool stuff like daedra summoning and creating magic items.
Since i have been ranked magician, it seems i have been on countless
quests for the mage's guild. How many more times do i need to be
promoted to be able to use everything the guild has to offer? How
many more quests will that take? Does turning down a quest hurt your
chances for promotion? Could the fact that i haven't patched the game
at all yet affect my advancement in the guild? (i'll patch it next week)
any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks in advance,

It dosnot work like this.
Let me explain how the rank guild works:
To get a promotion in a guild there is two ways :
1) you complete one quest and wait 28 days and then the program will
check for a promotion
2) you complete 20 quests and the program will ckeck for a promotion.

-When the program checks for a promotion here is what is happening :
1) the program looks for your reputation in the guild :
if your reputation is high enough it will look your skills in the school
of magic (for the mage guild for example) and test the hightest skill
and the second highest skill.
If they a high enough you get a promotion if they are not.....
for example to be level 5 you need your highest skill to be 64 % end the
second at least 24.....
It is not a matter of how many quests you have done, it is based on your
skills and your reputation in the guild
So if you want to get promotion casts spells.....
Hope this will help

In article <5bppb2$r...@harpo.uccs.edu>, emgr...@brain.UCCS.edu says...

> promoted to be able to use everything the guild has to offer?

There are ten levels in all (apprentice through archmage). You need to
achieve both a certain reputation (done by completeing quests) and a
minimum level in your two highest skills that affect the guild (for
example, destruction and alteration) to advance. You can advance a level
in the guild only every 28 days, but can advance multiple levels at a
time if you qualify.

> Does turning down a quest hurt your chances for promotion?

Nope. Failing a quest does hurt your reputation with the quest, though.

I don't know if that works like that i have my second skill around 25-27% and what i noticed was that i only advanced when my primary mage skill advance n*10 that means that i get the possibility to buy magic items at 50% and enchant items
at 60% and i supose that i will get the remaining levels by pushing the primary skill over 70 % and so on...but i would like to know if there is a correct formula for that...

My notion agrees more with Quiles. Here's how it seems to work:

This information was taken exclusively from
http://www.netidea.com/~willams. Check it out!

Each guild bases part of their evaluation of your rank and on your
skills. If you wish to progress in any particular guild, your
character must have at least two of the required skills. The other
major component is reputation with that particular guild. Characters
gain reputation by succesfully completing quests. Note that each month
, your character's reputation figure moves one closer to zero.

Here are the skills and/or requirements you have to have to be let
into your favorite guild. (Actually you at least need two of these
skills to be accepted)

The PC must have a minimum level in two of the guild's primary skills,
and a minimum reputation. He/she must wait at least a month between
ranks. Performing a successful guild quest adds 5 points to his/her
reputation with that guild. Each month (or three months?), the
reputation normalizes one point (moves closer to zero)

Rank Minimum Rep Minimum Highest Skill Min. 2nd highest
0 0 22 4
1 10 30 8
2 20 38 12
3 30 46 16
4 40 54 20
5 50 62 24
6 60 70 28
7 70 78 32
8 80 86 36
9 90 94 40

Guild Skills necessary for Mages Guild: Alteration, destruction,
illusion, mysticism, restoration, thaumaturgy.

IOW, you would be promoted to the 7th rank in the Mages Guild IF

1: Your reputation with the Guild was 70 or higher

2: Your highest guild related skill (Alteration, destruction,
illusion, mysticism, restoration, or thaumaturgy) was higher than 78

3: Your 2nd highest guild related skill was higher than 32

Anyways, that's how I've been informed. You can check out other cool
formulas, tricks, tips, etc...at http://www.netidea.com/~williams.

The table above is the one from the Hintbook, and as is frequently the
case with that book is not quite accurate. I believe the following is
more correct.

Rank Minimum Rep Minimum Highest Skill

0 0 22
1 10 23
2 20 31
3 30 39
4 40 47
5 50 55
6 60 63
7 70 71
8 80 79
9 90 87
