Vanquished Guard
I've done everything in this quest. My character discovered the guard's
body in the molerate cave and picked up everything in there. I've given the
amulet to the shadow and I've told the Snaf the chief about the situation.
I've even told Fletcher he'll have to double his work load to compensate for
the missing guard and it's still listed under my current missions. I'm in
Chapter 5 so I'm doubtful it'll ever clear..
Xardas the Necromancer
I've talked to the Necromancer and Ur-Shak. I have acquired the Ulu-mulu
and returned to the Necromancer and told him the full story behind the
Sleeper's summoning. The last entry in the mission is about how I need to
tell the Water Mages that their plan is incorrect. When I speak with the
leader of the Water Mages I have three dialog choices:
No...
Well...
It's not as it seems...
Selecting well leaves the other two as an option. If I select either the
mission goes under failed missions and the entry says something about how
you'd rather just let the Water Mages continue on with their plan. Isn't
there any way to finsih this mission 'correctly'?
Chromanin
I might have messed this one up. I killed the skeleton mage in the
lighthouse/coastal tower by the shipwreck. He had an odd book on him. I
didn't read the book until I was in the Free Mine and just about to leave.
As I read the first book by the entrance (while still in the mine) the
second book spawned right in front of me!! I did this all the way until the
last book. Wow! What an easy way to acquire the books and some experience.
I figure since the 'game world' at that moment was the Free Mine it was
spawning them at the entrace since it couldn't find the correct locations
within the 'world'. By world I mean the area loaded into memory. If I was
outside then I would be in the outside 'world' for example.
Well I went back to the lighthouse as the book instructed but there was
nothing in the skeleton mage's cavern. I heard that there's supposed to be
a corpse.. I figured I'd head back to the Free Mine to make sure the
surprise wasn't spawned there like the books but I didn't find anything
suspicious. I just discovered a few drinks and items of food I had missed
the first few times through. I did notice some Shadows running away from me
which was unusual because I thought I had killed everyone who wasn't a
Digger. Even then I decided to kill them along with the Diggers just to be
safe. Still I didn't discover any items or out of place corpses. Ideas?

Hmmm. If I remember correctly, It should clear as
soon as you give the necklace to the shadow.
Sounds like you did the right things .. not sure
what's going on here.

No. You always "fail" this mission and there is no
way to fix it. It is part of the plot.

Weird! Your description of why this bug happens
sound pretty plausible though. I think that the
engine can only deal with objects on the current
map.

Yeah, and on that corpse is the final book. But
since reading the previous book is the event that
spawns the creation of the corpse on the "world"
map, I think you may have messed up by reading it
in the free mine.

I always spare the the guys that run from me. :-)
Besides, I figured that the Guards were really
behind the Free Mine capture and that the Shadows
and Diggers were just "following orders".
Regarding chromanin, I have no idea and I don't
think you'll be able to fix the quest. The script
that handles that chromanin quest obviously assumed
that the active map would be "world". In most
cases, people read the books as soon as they find
them and since they can only normally only be found
in "world", your situation is quite unique.
Why don't you go restore just before you get the
next to the last book. Return to the main map and
then read that book. Maybe that will set things
right.
Someone else suggested it's completion just wasn't triggered properly or I
might have entered into and thus triggered the quest incorrectly. It's a
mute point though since the Shadows all spoke up for me any ways.

It would seem so! I was a bit creeped out at the thought some Stranger was
dropping them in such a manner. I'm sure it would have been more mysterious
if I had to search for them but my anticipation was built enormously by that
point.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to finish the game off but I did save a
little bit before I started reading the books so perhaps I could acquire the
first four and then read the fourth one outside the mine. It'd be a nice
trick if it worked.

I usually do to. I like to think of myself as person dispensing justice and
I never find justice in slaying the civilians or even some of the lower
guards. :)
