I took the side of the druids despite the dorky dialogue for the party leader,
because of comments made by the noble and the fact that druids are generally
recognized as the protectors of forests. Got a useful sword, and I know that a
future event stemming from this action will yield another useful item.

But is there anything that I've locked myself out of completely by killing the
noble?

If he'd survived, in Chapter 5 he would have asked you to investigate
the Merchant League. Nothing unique there though; it's just an
opportunity to do more bug hunting and gain XP.

I wasn's sure which side to take either. I saved and killed both
parties to see who had the best loot. Turns out I wanted what both
sides had (I'm greedy). I managed by pure luck to get both. I killed
the noble and then the druid thanked me and started to walk away. He
ran into my thief and at that moment I clicked pick pocket on him and
succeeded. So I got everything and was happy.

That's funny, I did the same, worked the first time too.

Ah, but there's an even better way to be greedy. Having test-killed both
groups to check out their loot, I tried to play it in-character for my
opportunistic, evil party. Pickpocket the hunter as soon as humanly
possible to get his cool sword, but don't kill him because as a merchant
from the fair city of Baldur's Gate it might pay to have him indebted to
you... When the druids show, kill 'em and take the cool ring. Later in
Baldur's Gate the merchant will again ask for your help, and when you
succeed you get a nice XP award along with a nice gift--his cool sword
all over again. Hmmmm. Nice that they can mass manufacture family
heirlooms like that . Anyway, maybe you don't need two of that sword, but
I'm always looking to add more and more magic weapons to my collection... :)

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for.

Ahhh... but killing the hunter is supposed to give you one extra
item later on, the heavy xbow of accuracy (Thac0 +5).

Later...

The hunter is Aldeth Sashentar(?), right? This means that if u get the heavy
xbow u won't get the long sword+1, +3 against shapeshifters. I might try
the former this time for a change.
