I learned of a *Gold* Edition of Daggerfall upon reading the most
recent FAQ. Gold (enhanced, expanded, etc.) editions bother me. By
the time they are released I have usually played the game to
exhaustion and I am left staring at the shiny new tin-foiled
box on the store shelf reading about all of the features that I missed
out on because I wanted to play the game three months ago.

Concerning Daggerfall: Will the *Gold* edition offer full speech?
Enhanced graphics? The now-omitted business and romance
sub-plots? A chocolate bar? I have been eagerly awaiting
the release of this game and would hate to think that the best
CRPG in years will only get much better come January 1997 (or
whenever the *Gold* edition is released.) I feel penalized for
wanting to play the game upon its initial release!

I agree with Jeff. At the very least, I think Bethesda ought to offer
previous owners an upgrade to the "Gold" features at _no more_ than US$20.
Anything else would be pretty cheesy in my book.

I agree with you. For a long time, I would buy a new game
when it first came out. Then a month or two later, not only
would it drop in price, but a "free" hint book would be
included, or an additional game included as an incentive to
buy it. Now I wait a while before I buy a new title, sometimes
until it gets to the clearence bin and pay $19.95 instead of
$59.95.

I completely agree with you. Sometimes it seems as if the game
companies are giving us something to tide us over until the
"real"(Gold) release. Bethesda Softworks is one of my favorite
companies and I have ordered the Limited Edition of Daggerfall,
however
if they release a Gold Edition w/ new, significant features; I, for
one, will be extremely dissapointed. However, I am inclined to belive
that the proposed gold edition will include support for 3d Accelerator
Cards, added speech, and maybe higher resolutions. I think the
romantic and some of the business portions of the game will be too
difficult to implement regardless of additional coding time.

I _know_ Bethesda is planning on releasing an "Enhanced" version of TES:ARENA
soon. But I have not heard of a *DAGGERFALL* Gold edition.

Are you talking about the limited Edition? If so then that is the same
game, but with some extra goodies(like a t-shirt) and next day delivery
the day it is released.

I do not think that Bethesda is going to do a Gold edition. They have
already started on TES: Chapter 3, and I don't think they are looking back.

The Gold edition is for Arena and contains the clue book and mousepad as well as the game. There is no Daggerfall Gold...

I found at time sending in my reg cards here is a good idea. most of the
time i found when sending in my reg cards, and they come out w/ a "gold"
edition, they usually send me some deal where I can upgrade to this ver,
just by sending $15-25 and maybe the origional game.

Hi,

I'm going to answer a bunch of questions about Daggerfall/Arena
here. 1) They have the pre-order special for Daggerfall going on right now
which includes a T-shirt and poster and maybe a mousepad as an extra. 2)
There is a Arena Deluxe which has the hint book and mousepad. This is on
sale now. TES 3 has not started yet and won't start until after
Daggerfall is released. There are no plans yet for a Daggerfall Gold
edition either so anything on that would simply be speculation.

Hey Hal, nice to see a DF programer on the net, when is the limited
edition shipping? I think they stopped taking orders for it though. I
ordered it a few weeks ago, can't wait.

Great someone from Bethesda! Is the game finished or is it still being worked
on? In other words, has it been sent out for replication and are we likely to
see it in the month of August '96? Sorry, I couldn't resist putting the year
in. :) I am afterall one of those people that bought the special edition of
the game back in October '95. I've got a week of vacation scheduled for that
last week of August based on the rumours that it will be shipping. Without
good release date information, I really can't plan my vacation properly.
Better yet if you can't tell anything about when it will be released just tell
us if you have a vacation planned anytime soon ;). We'll get the hint!!

A little bit of bad news on Daggerfall's release (maybe). Someone on the
Daggerfall mailing list talked with a Daggerfall programmer a couple days
ago. The programmer was complaining about working 12 hour days 7 days a
week, and the mailing list person said not to worry, you should get
plenty of vacation when Daggerfall is released in a couple weeks. The
programmer's response was, "I'll believe it when I see it." The mailing
list person wasn't sure if the programmer was talking about getting
vacation, or releasing Daggerfall in a couple of weeks. (I hope to god he
was talking about his vacation.)

P.S.: John, I wouldn't plan your vacation for the end of August just
yet!

Hi Hal,
So, will it be out in England last day of August? Does it run thru'
Win95 (using DirectX2 including Direct3D) or is it just nicely behaved
in Win95, ie, faster in DOS?

As far as I know it will run under 95, but will not have native windows
API calls.
