Also, does anyone know if triggering a trapped chest destroys any of
the treasure within?

For any of the basic skills, try the healer, inn, armorer, blacksmith, and
training center. I'm sure the skill is taught by one of those
establishments.

Nope; doesn't do anything except make your characters dead.

i haven´t played MM7 yet, but i heard several times that the items in a
chest get damaged if you trigger the trap.

Really? I've been setting off traps left and right, and I haven't seen
anything damaged in a chest yet (of course, if they are getting completely
destroyed, I'd never know).

I think this is due to some of the chests being empty or holding few
items. People then believe that the contents were destroyed,
incorrectly. No one so far has come up with a positive test case in
which there were contents that were not there afterwards. I'm not even
sure this test case could exist, since I think the chest contents are
randomized upon opening.

senseless, no apparent self-control
There was a chest in the Barrow Downs that teleports you when you open it.
I tried at least 30-40 times (to see what I could get...it had nice
stuff), and I definately got more stuff when I took less damage (I
couldn't disarm it completely). I though it was some kind of perception
roll to see what stuff you got (and how bad the damage was), but the idea
that damage destroys items makes more sense.

Well, if this is the case, I don't think quest items can be
destroyed. I found a chest which blew up on me, and all that was left
was the key to the Barrow Downs.
