I suspect a Beta for a product like DaggerFall would take at least 6 weeks
and likely more (as much as 3 months) depending on quality. Of course
Bethesda has much more experience with PC RPG Betas than me... Care to
offer an estimate Bethesda? ;-)

A request for Bethesda... After reading some of the Previews of DaggerFall
I'm anxiously awaiting its release. In the meantime, can you provide some
additional game details above and beyond those already publicly available?

Please speak extensively about:

1) Property ownership (house, castle, ship). Can you hire an army to
defend your castle? To defend against what?
2) Types of quests and adventures...
3) Character reputation and how it affects the game.
4) Polymorph into what? 8-)
5) Character generation.
6) Evesdropping.

We have no idea how long beta will take - it really depends on the first
month of testing - after about a month you can get a better idea how long
it will take to complete.

1. You can definately own a house/castle/ship
2. Various types of quests - for individuals, and guilds
3. Character reputation will deterimine membership in guilds, quests, and
generall how NPC's treat you.
4. Character generation. In addition to the standard character generation
which will be similar to that in ARENA, we will have a Custom
CHaracter
maker. Also don't forget that skills are now a part of the character
attributes.

That's all I will say for now.

i've got a few questions to add to the list:

7) how accurate is the 33MHz minimum requirement. i've heard people
congratulate Activision for being really honest by saying 66MHz was
the minimum. what's the minimum requirement for full detail, partial,
etc... or maybe a better way would be for the different computer speeds
how much detail can i have without it becoming jerky and slow.
(the point is, i DON'T have a pentium, and WON'T for some time. i DO
have a DX4/100 which seems just enough to have full detail on most
CURRENT games.)

8) about the spell and item maker... first, the spells you could buy
were always more expensive the same spell make in the spell maker, which
sort of negated any reason for buying spells. second, the spell maker
seemed almost TOO powerful, which led to severe game-imbalance. by
the time you passed 10th level, walking through dungeons became a simple
matter of casting Flame/Ice touch and killing ANYTHING after one attack.
a quick potion--if necessary--topped your spell points right back up for
the next baddie. i hope that, in addition to the other developments like
plot and NPC, this has been looked into. especially with the addition
of the item maker--which sound VERY cool, but also potentially
dangerous.
(the point on this one is, when combat becomes too easy, the game begins
to lose its excitement.)

9) from what i've been reading DaggerFall looks to be the holy grail of
RPG. i'm praying it won't disappoint. Frontier: First Encounters was
supposed to be that from the space-sim side, and it appears to have
failed miserably--a case of bug city, plus some hold over bugs from
Frontier: Elite II. on the other hand, MechWarrior II, has done it on
the mech-sim side. from all the reports i've been reading, it didn't
disappoint on hardly any front. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make DaggerFall an
RPG MechWarrior2. poeple bitch and moan about how long it's taking to
come out. ignore them. if i have to wait until january or february to
get a majoratively (is that even a word?) bug free game, that's been
well thought out and executed.

now lets see if we can get some answers....

While DAGGERFALL will run on a 486Dx33 - it will be pretty slow. We are
recommending that users have a 486DX 50-66 to get the game to run well.

Now that DAGGERFALL is going to beta we will have a much better idea
as to how it will run on a 486Dx33 - it will be tested on one.

Also those riddles that everyone hated so much have been banished in
DAGGERFALL. We have really tried to listen to the folks who played
ARENA and make sure that DAGGERFALL will eliminate a lot of things
the users didn't like about ARENA.

There will definately be more NPC interaction. We will have virtual books
-
you can go to a library or find a book and read some of the legends of
the World of Tamriel.

We are also trying to balance the game better so that you won't be a
superman by half way throught the game. While you will be able to make
items in the item makers - you may have to weigh the negative effects of
the
item you create against it's positive effects. Also we have some big
tough, new monsters waiting for those super characters!

We are trying very hard to have DAGGERFALL come out the end of
October and have already started taking pre-orders for the special
edition of DAGGERFALL at the Emporium at our Web Site
