Don't know a thing about it, but GOG.com is offering Magrunner: Dark
Pulse for free for 24 hours.
They're also offering all their Summer sale bundles today. Here's the
ones I'd recommend getting if you don't already have them:
D&D Masterset
Probably the best RPG deal you'll find anywhere. All of the classic
Infinity engine games including Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and the
Planescape: Torment.
Heroes of Might & Magic Titles
These games combine a strategic interface with tactical combat in way few
games have managed to do well. Heroes of Might and Magic III is probably
the best of bunch, certainly the most popular. The first two games are,
in retrospect, basically stripped down versions of the third, so you'll
either want to play them in order or just skip to number 3. The latest
two games in the series for better or worse go in different directions.
Of the two I've only played 4, and though it goes off track, it's still
was enjoyable. The last game is supposed to be better.
Thief Classics
These are the games that invented the "first-person sneaker" and
pretty much pefected stealth based gameplay. The first two games are
incredible experiences, only the original Deus Ex beats them for an
alternative first-person experience. I haven't played the third (yet),
but while it's supposed to be a bit of a let down, that would still make
it a pretty good game.
Some of the other bundles are OK, but I can't completely recommend them
for one reason or another. The Ultima Complete Saga and Might & Magic
RPG Classics offer what were some of the best RPGs available at the time,
but I don't think they hold up all that well today. You'd be better
picking select games like Ultima Underword I+II and Might and Magic VII,
and even then you'd have to be willing accept very primitve 3D graphics.
I'd recommend Gothic 2&3 except Gothic 1&2 would be a much better bundle.
Gothic 3 got terrible reviews, so I haven't bothered with it yet, but
the first two games are good enough that it's worth getting used to
their unfortunately unintuitive controls. The Risen Saga looks like
a good alternative, as spiritual sequels they're same sort of game,
but with normal controls and better graphics. I haven't played them
though so I can't actually recommend them.
A few individual games I've seen one sale I can recommend are: Sid Meier's
Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion 1+2 (but not 3), Arcanum: Of Steamworks
and Magic Obscura, Beyond Good and Evil, The Witcher 1 & 2, System Shock 2,
Deus Ex GOTY Edition, Divne Divinity, Jagged Alliance 2 and Wizardry 8.
The game Evil Genius deserves special mention. It's a flawed game.
Overall it's gameplay more or less works, just not very well. But this
game oozes style like no other. It captures that 60's James Bond spy
feel perfectly. The soundtrack, the graphics, the characters, everything
is just spot on.
