You could stop worrying perhaps. Finishing the game, and
striding off into the wastelands with a bad-ass three legged
dog at your side is not a bad way to go.

He isn't so bad-ass when he just keeps running away. Not by my
definition of bad-ass anyway.
The problem with Dogmeat and the other NPCs in Fallout 1 was that they
couldn't wear better armour. Gets to the point where its almost impossible
to keep them alive without having to save and reaload after many fights.
In Fallout II crippled limbs cannot be healed with doctor skill, but u
can go see a doctor (either the one in Vault City or the one in SF) and
have ur limbs restored by autodoc (I believe that's what it's called?).
I'm not sure about F1 though.. but maybe u could try?
The first time I played FO I did the save and reload thing and kept him
alive until I was in the necropolis, then it became too much trouble.
By the end of the game all the NPCs were long dead.
I have been playing FO again and I let all the NPCs die off quickly and
am going solo.
>I have been playing FO again and I let all the NPCs die off quickly and

Fallout is much easier when going at it solo which just shows you how
poorly thought out the whole NPC thing was in the first game. I never
take any of the NPCs. But I do take Dogmeat. He kicks ass and he does
just fine in the first part of the game. I really wanted to take him
to Necropolis. The ghouls there are no match for him and he kills them
quicker then I can. But due to his damaged limbs it looks I am going
to have to kill him as he is completely useless to me now. I wouldn't
have minded him dying later on, but at this point in the game, it kind
of sucks.
>In Fallout II crippled limbs cannot be healed with doctor skill,
Haven't played the sequel yet so I can not comment on it. But I did
use the doctor skill to heal myself of crippled limbs in the original.
But that was in a different game with a character that had a higher
skill in Doctor. I guess you are saying that this feature was removed
completely in Fallout 2. I'll keep that in mind.

You can get crippled limbs healed my doctors in Fallout 1. But I can't
seem to get the doctors to heal Dogmeat of his crippled limbs. I guess
I need a veterinarian and there isn't one Fallout 1. :-P
R.I.P. Dogmeat!
I've always had Dogmeat survive until the end. The other NPCs
sometimes seem more fragile. I wonder what Dogmeat's stats
are? I think it was harder keeping him alive earlier in the game
actually. Even when enemies start having rocket launchers,
they tend to miss badly or aim at me instead of Dogmeat.
The other NPCs died more often in my experience.

The poor thing was suffering. It had to be done. He's in doggy heaven
now. :)
...Now I feel the urge to pull out Fallout and try to keep Dogmeat
alive...:)

Fallout forum, hopefully someone will confirm whether i was right
pretty soon, just don't wanna misguide ppl around~ Oh gosh it's been a
while since the last time i played FOT2.. *_*

No problem. I'll just keep this post in mind to. ;)
Just got a reply, someone told me that u can also restore crippled
limbs in FOT2 with ur doctor skill, it requires a high lvl doctor skill
of course~ sorry 4 the confusion :p
No problem. This is probably why the doctor skill did not work on
Dogmeat. I was able to heal his hitpoints, but not his crippled limbs.
My doctor skill on that character was only in the 20s.
