There are plenty of new games out there that are AWESOME, Gears of
War, Bioshock, Assassins creed, but to play these new games you have
to have a pretty descent Computer system. If you are looking for a new
system you should check out www.psychopcs.com all of there computers
come with at least a 17" widescreen LCD monitor unlike many other
computer sites on the web whos computers dont come with a monitor or
anything. I bought my PC here also, I will never buy another computer
from anywere else. www.psychopcs.com

And who would want one? 17" widescreen means effectively 15" with some
extra bits on the side.

I'm pretty sure that some of us would argue in favor of these independent
projects:

- A roguelike game that offered Elite-esque space travel and/or portals
to other 'worlds' and 'time periods' each with their own text/tile based
creatures.

- Another well-written Infinity Engine title (preferably a sequel to
Planescape:Torment or even Wasteland/Fallout).

- A modern successor to classics like the original Bard's Tale, Wizardry
and Might and Magic series (complete with map, creature and item/spell
editors).

- An updated version of UFO/X-COM, Jagged Alliance and the various
Tactics (Final Fantasy, Ogre) titles.

- Some new isometric worlds (along with an editor) for The Summoning,
Shadowlands/worlds and the Diablo series.

perhaps they could add some of the bells and whistles that made these
classics great (ie the teleportation puzzles of the Summoning, the light-
based puzzles of Shadowlands, the restoration of drained experience
levels through rest ala Moraff's World, team play ala Bloodwych) to one
of the above examples or even a seperate project.

Until they arrive, I'll be happy with some of the more moddable titles
available (ie Rocks 'N' Diamonds, Enigma, Zelda Classic; the various
first person shooters) until some updated and editable versions of the
various arcade classics (ie Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Puzznic; Super
Mario World) make their eventual appearance.

Here's hoping.

Sure.

God no! ;-p (at least, not for me)

Definitely...tried UFO:Afterlight? Best spiritual successor I've seen
since UFO/XCOM.

Definitely a D3 & a decent Shadowrun crpg (I'd even settle for a well
done cyberpunk/sci-fi mmo at this stage). In Nomine is another pnp rpg
that would make a good crpg imo.

I think we've seen the end of TP puzzles ala EOB1/2 & the like. Thankfully.

To each their own. ^_^

For some reason, exploring the crystalline and marble dungeons of Blade
of Destiny, World of Xeen and Lands of Lore enticed me until Morrowind
came along (Arena, Daggerfall and Captive were tough to find in my area)
*shrug*

I don't think I've seen it in my area but I'll keep an eye out for it.

I actually haven't played any turned based games in quite a while (I
believe my last one was 'Master of Magic') and I'm not sure if even one
of the Jagged Alliance titles will entice me at the moment.

Still, one can always hope. ^_^

AFAIK, there is a D3 being made by Blizzard but none of the programmers
of D2 are involved. We'll see how it turns out, though.

(My own interpretation has it set in modern times with a variety of
'classes' [ie cop, scientist, wiccan] available. Still with
Hellgate:London available, it could probably be considered 'water under
the bridge') ^_^;

> In Nomine is another pnp rpg that would make a good crpg imo.

I'm sure that Torg and Toon (if not Cartoon Action Hour or Big Eyes Small
Mouth) will be suggested as well. The only real question is which
'engine' to use to tell the (overall) story. (ie the isometric maps and
grid-based battles of MegaMan Battle Network or perhaps one of the turn-
based 'Tactics' engines?)

Again, to each their own. ^_^

I, actually, thought that the ones in the Summoning were quite clever.
(Then again, I never finished that game due to school. 9_9 Perhaps, I'll
give it another spin in DOSBox.)

It was the 'spinners' that that tended to drive me batty. ~_^

With the high system requirements and buggy nature of the current crop of
PC games, can you blame me? ^_^;

Then again, the 'politics' involved with retail collections like Namco
Museum, Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe and Taito Legends (aka the
censorship of some games and the addition of Star Force copy protection)
didn't help much either.

Gotcha. It's not quite TBed however - it uses the 'hit space to pause at
anytime & issue commands' interface, which I actually think works much
better for a game like this. It's also different & quirky enough to not just
be a re-hash of the old UFO/XCOM games with upgraded AV, which I appreciate
some ppl might want (in which case there is a modern freeware direct port -
I forget the name).

Yeah. With all the new games, guess what I'm playing daily with the Mrs?
D2:LoD v1.11b with the Median2008 mod - best TC I've seen in a long time!

Are we talking about one of the very few great console ports to PC,
"Summoner" here? Never heard of the Summoning is all. That did have some
similar type puzzles, but I've only played half the game to be honest.

It could be Pocket UFO

unless there's an open source project I don't know about.

Yes, I read about that. ^_^

It's nice when a family can share the same interest(s) (ie board or card
games) even once in a while. Couples that enjoy the same computer games
are decidedly rare (or so I've heard). ^_^

Actually, I have this 'character flaw' involving finishing a game
'vanilla' before trying any of the toppings (mods) and syrups (total
conversions).

Still, I'll look into it once I defeat Baal.

Well, hey, they're options.

Plus I could link to at least three storylines that involve (a human
character visiting) a world where (North American) cartoons and anime
characters interact.

Actually, it's a spiritual precursor to Diablo.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/summoning

And along with the usual hack-n-slash, it has inventive traps, some
clever puzzles and an innovative magic system. (And the story is no
slouch either)

If you can't find any copies of it on Amazon or eBay, there is a certain
'underdog' abandonware site that can help. (Just be sure to get the

Wishes and dreams can vary with the individual, it's how we achieve them

No, not that one & yes, I'm fairly certain from memory it was OS. Must find
it...very similar to UFO. It even had a Linux port & was quite 'greenish',
with higher resolutions supported (of course).

I will consider myself very lucky then! :)

I started her on a WoW char last night...totally unused to the 3D mouse
movement & operates the mouse like a spaz, but enjoyed herself for the hour
or so before the motion sickness got to her, he, he. I left her to practice
'moving' & 'looking around' at one stage for 10 mins while I took a phone
call. I get back & she's clear across Elwynn Forest & halfway down Westfall,
just exploring & runnin around. Ahhh, to be a mmo newb again! ;)

She would probably always hog the best PC, never follow instructions & every
