I've got a problem with Jaana the druid in Ultima 7.1. Every time I ask
her to heal somebody from my party she complains that she has to rest a
while before she can heal again. It did work fine a while ago. I don't
know when it stopped to work. I rest about once a day on a and she has got
her own bedroll as well in her backpack... Anybody any idea what is going
wrong?
Thanx

Let her be. I found the "restoration" spell much more useful.

Yes, basically Jaana's useless. For me she was mostly a body to help
carry stuff. You can count on her to be able to heal or ressurect
maybe 2 or 3 times in the whole game.
BTW, she doesn't need a bedroll. Your party only needs one bedroll,
for you. You can sleep in any bed, but I liked the bedroll for
dungeons when the whole party was pretty banged up (sleep for 8 or
so hours and everyone should be pretty much healed).

I ran into this, too. My guess is that it's a bug that hits after
awhile. Whatever it is, it seriously degrades her usefulness as a
party member.

I know. I exploited this shamelessly in U7. It is actually pretty
funny. If the menacing (danger, bad guys are nearby) music is
playing, your party won't let you sleep. But once the music stops,
even if the bad guys are still on the screen, you can camp!
I think it slipped their minds. I don't even know why I tried it.
I think the first time I did it, both Julia and Jaana were at like
1 health point, and everyone else was around 5. I don't know how
we didn't die in the first place... :)
BTW, the Retoration spell in U7.5 is really handy for this...
I think the clock in U7.1 is screwed. The same type of problem happens
when you try to get a free meal at the Castle. They tell you that
you can only get one per day. You tell them--sure that was 2 weeks
ago....

That was one big change from earlier Ultimas, by the way. Time used to be,
that if you tried to sleep in a dungeon, you would awaken to a surprise
attack! I wonder if Origin changed that intentionally, or if it just
slipped their minds.

When I went to night school at the Agricultural College,
I learned three things:
1. Never stand in back of a cow
-- El Seed, The Tick
Yes, I had this too. However I think that there *may* be an obvious
solution.
Jaana can only cast a limited number of spells a day, before she needs
to sleep. Now the NPC's can only sleep if you go to an Inn and pay for
a room for the whole party. If you do this, she will be able to cast
spells again. I think...
The Avatar really is a selfish fellow. He'll just pull out his bedroll
and kip down anywhere. Meanwhile he expects all the others to do
without sleep - and that's after they've followed him around all
day, lugging about his stuff. You wonder why Dupre wants to go into all
the Taverns/Inns? Why the others always say "That food smells good"
when you pass an Inn? It's not that they're hungry, I tell you, they
just want to sit down!!! Also, they probably feel that they can gang
up and pursuade the Avatar to hire a room for the night... I mean, it
might be expensive, but let's face it, the Avatar's normally got pots
of money...

Actually, it's not everyone else saying "That food smells good" it's just
Spark. Since the little brat whined and cried just to get into the party, he
can just shut up and put up with it like everyone else. :) Also, I'd imagine
that the rest of the party sleeps in watches while you are sleeping. Though
if there were only two of you, then you sleep all night and whoever gets no
rest. As for the Jaana/sleep in inn thing, I don't think it will help since
the problem is a bug. I never had the problem in the first place, sleeping
with the bedroll did the trick.
