Oh I know nVidia does, now, but ATi had issues with PhysX back when
those drivers were third party - I remember friends with ATi cards
having all kinds of issues in City of Heroes which used PhysX before
nVidia bought it. PhysX wasn't the only issue ATi cards had in that
game before ATi sorted out their drivers.
Face it, ATi posts high FPS rates in various tests, and sell
"equivalent" power for less, but you really do get what you pay for, a
card from a company known to have issues with games due to their driver
writing style - optimized for FPS only and to hell with compatibility.
I'd rather have a "slower" and/or more expensive card that just plain
works every time without issue so there's no price point at which an ATi
card will ever be a "value" to me.
Having to edit config files just to get basic performance or having to
wait until ATi releases a new driver in order to play a newly released
game _at_ _all_ (RAGE) is a HUGE entry in the negative column and they'd
have to be _hundreds_ of dollars cheaper to make that balance out.
Your mileage obviously varies.
