Hi -

I'm playing single-player Diablo, and am on level 13, where the Steel
Lords are kicking my ass. They seem resistant to all magic, and there
are a ton of them, and each hit from them causes me to lose a bunch of
hit points.

What strategies work with these guys? I can't find any place that allows
me to only deal with one at a time -- it's all those open corridors, etc.

Help!

I thought so too but you can draw them out one or two at a time
and usually take them on successfully then. Three or more and it
usually means restore for me.

You may be moving more then you should and attracting more then
you should. Try one step approach at a time and the minute you see or
hear something move off to your ambush site.

Fireballs are effective. Stone Curse is a wonderful spell for
one on one. :) And for me I cannot beat my Bow of the Bear to kick
back the monsters and keep them away from hitting me.

I thought L13 was going to be the end for me but I'm going
through L14 now using the same careful tactics successfully. Good
luck.

You'll notice they stop about every 10 seconds to pause for a moment. My
thief did really well by running until they paused, and then turning and
firing a couple of arrows. Then run again, and then fire when they stop.
If the first couple of arrows didn't kill them, the second volley will.
The trick is to use those pauses against them though...

try to move slowly, so that you can determine how many you will have to
fight, then ran back to a nook or behind a wall where you can get the first
hit.. btw.. what are you?

Well, you could try to cast chain lightening if you have the spell. This
spell can sometimes kill 2-3 steel lords in a group. You could try
firewall but they seemed to have high resistance to fire.

I don't fear the steel lords as much as those pesky mages. As a warrior
I have to chase them down or cast fireball.

Anyway, good luck.

Oh those things are just walking hit point farms. :) I have the Undead
Crown which transfers lifepoints and those clowns are just like the
blood bank. :) What I do is move up to them and then retreat so they
get strung out and then attack. The problems really starts when they
have their artillery support, but the move up-incite them to follow-fall
back and attack from around a blind corner trick works on the
death-bimbos as well...fortuantely.

I have been using the Lightning spell against these guys. They are
pretty tough but can be killed after 4 or 5 lightning blasts by
my 22nd level sorcerer. When I see them I run away from them so
they chase me in a single file line next to a wall. Then I blast
the first guy and since the spell keeps going it takes out the
guys behind him too. This is for the normal Steel Lords running
around level 13. I have not tried to fight that Steel Lord leader
(what ever his name is yet). What do you use to defeat him?

Lightning works fine against the steel lords (they are resistant, but
not immune). Chain lightning works wonders.

That's Warrior of Blood. I was never able to kill him. But I heard fireball
will do nicely, which I do not have.

That's right Chain Lightning is the best spell for hell. Many monsters in
hell are immune to fire but only a few are immune to lightning. A Rogue
with a good resistance can ignore the artillery support and I can keep 5
Steel Lords away with my bow. Resistance is the most important Attribute
in Hell - I have killed the archbishop and all his followers without a
single spell or potion.

My level 21 sorceror was able to Stone Curse him and then bash him to
death using a sword. If he recovers from the Stone Curse before you
manage to kill him, Stone Curse him again. Make sure you pick off all
his bodyguards first, though.

I have a lot more trouble against Advocates and Magistrates etc.
though. Does anyone know of a good way to take out those sorts of
guys without having to go back and recharge on potions of full mana
every 5 minutes? I use Stone Curse on these guys too, but while I'm
busy bashing up the stoned guy, all his friends keep throwing those
annoying fireballs at me, draining my mana shield.

I dunno. It seems that if you close and are very aggressive, they do
not get to swing as much. Is it possible that Blizzard modeled some
kind of weapon heft and reach into the game?

I'm a warrior in my game, and two hits with my axe of power can take down
the level 13 steel lords (first time around).

Fireballs work fairly well. The trick is to not surrounded. string them
out
