Who are some some good NPC's to kill to get some good items. I've heard
people mention Blindmeis and Rodan. I'm doing the funhouse right now and
I'll probably kill Blindmeis when I'm finished. Unless he is of use later.
The next question would be when can I kill the NPC(s) and not lose
valueable information or items such as keys.

You first get all important items (like maps, keys etc.) needed for the
solution and more or less random treasure.

If you want to go to kill off all NPCs try these ones:

- Professor Wunderland (New City, library)

NPCs with much power:
- Shritis T'Rang (arch-foe of the Rodan Lewarx)
NOTE: once you met him, he will follow you secretly and pop up in the most
bad situations either to demand information or something else.
- Rodan Lewarx (an Umpani, equipped with guns)

You should always avoid killing NPC businessmen such as Paluke the armorer,
The umpani blackmarket salesman, and the Dane magic salesman(all in New City)
You don't get much for killing them and this deprives you of an easy way
to sell off extra weapons and armor. You can go ahead and try(I emphasize
try!!) to kill Blienmeis after finishing the funhouse. He is tough. If you
don't have a faire ninja though the weapon you get from him is pretty useless.
Overall, early in the game I try not to any NPC's untill you've had a chance to
talk to all of them. Buy lots of stamina potions and avoid resting or half
of them will be dead already before you get a chance to meet them. Once you
have met them all, start killing them whenever you meet one carrying any
maps (other then fools). This will give you a great source of income.
You can sell a map to an npc you meet who has another map for 10000 gold.
Then kill him and get both maps plus the money. This will also thin out
the possible peolpe carrying the Legend Map which is the only one you
must possess to finish the game. The others just give real vague clues.
Hope this helps.....

First off, Rodan and Blindmeis are good choices. Blindmeis is a
real pain to kill - he flees very quickly. A bad choice is the
munk guy who guards the bridge. If you kill him, his ghost will
haunt the bridge for the rest of the game. This means that
every time you want to cross that bridge, you have to fight his
ghost (and a bunch of his friends).

As far as information and items go, I don't think it will be a
major problem. Items such as maps will always exist in the
game, regardless of who you kill. In other words, if Rodan has
the map and you kill him, you get the map as treasure. As far
as I know, it's impossible for any of the maps to be removed
from the game.

tosh.

Sound advice. You might think you won't be needing any more weapons, etc.
but you might as well play it safe.

>talk to all of them. Buy lots of stamina potions and avoid resting or half

Hm... I didn't do this, and some of the NPC's I've never gotten to
talk to (they died). So I don't know what clues I might have missed.
However, I think the important ones will stay alive.

True, but note that it's pretty much impossible (without reading a
walkthrough or hint book) to solve the game without having read the
Crystal and Boat maps, since they give important combinations.

Does this mean who is easy to kill, who is hard to kill, or who do you
get good stuff from?
I killed Brother TShober, who is a complete wimp. However, something
interesting happens later on (I think it's a matter of chance if and
when it happens) if you do kill him ... I'll let you find out for
yourself.

Tip: Before killing an NPC, sell him all your maps. That way, you
get the gold and the maps!

I haven't done Blindmeis. If you're going to kill him, make sure you
have gotten the potion and the rubber nose from him, and that there
aren't any items you'll be wanting to buy from the Thieves' Guild.

I did kill Rodan. He's fairly tough, in purely physical terms, but he
doesn't have any spells, so he wasn't that hard for my party of ninjas
(with super-low armor class) to kill. You get his medallion, which is
good, and Shritis will be pleased with you. I'm pretty sure there's
nothing you need him alive for.

I also killed Boerigard. Not too tough. Again, it's a good way of
making lots of money (by selling the maps first, that is).

Yeah... bliendmeis is a good choice... cane of corpus is one of the best
weapons in the game, but don't kill him or any other rattkin until you do
the favor for barlone and he sells you the treasure room. That is the
ONLY place in the game that you can find peacemaker arrows, and you can't
get it if Ratsputin and Mik the Pik are dead. Rodan Lewarx can be a pain
in the but to kill (I'm level 16 and I still can't catch up to him) and
hard to find. Jan-Ette is my A-1 choice for a murder, she usualy carries
a map or two, and calls helazoid aces to get the good expierience, same
with lord gallilire and king ulgar. I usualy kill everyone in the course
of the game because I get bored with normal fights, but for a quick and
easy first target hit Tracker Rhallick, he is not very hard, and can get
in the way by killing your tickets to the valuabe treasure room (like he
did to me). D'rang T'rang is fun to kill because he brings all of those
wimpy elders. He can be defeated with Deadly Poison 7 and Nuclear Blast
3-4.

On a separate note, does anyone know where to get the Cameo Locket and
the Diamond Ring? I saw these things in the items list when looking at
an old savegame with the editor. Cameo locket is ac -4 and regen +1, for
any male to wield, diamond ring is ac -5 and regen +1, for any female
character.

What is the best Race-Class combo and why?

My vote is for Faerie Ninja (can get to natural ac -20)

What is the best Weapon and why?

What is the best armor and why?

I have only seen these two in Wizardry six. if you kill the Black dragon
at the end you will get the Cameo Locket, and I believe the diamond ring
comes from Rebecca.

> What is the best Race-Class combo and why?

I like this one if only for the Cane Corpus. The ninja really doesn't
need the extra AC reduction from race. the only drawback is you'll never
swing a No-dashi...

> What is the best Weapon and why?

Overall, I think I would take a *Light Sword* for shear power at +6 to Hit
and 5-40 damage (doubled at melee). Honourable mention to Excalibur (+4
and regeneration, critical, and 8-36 damage, melee), and Cane Corpus (+4 to
hit, 12-42 damage, poison, paralysis, critical)

> What is the best armor and why?

Ebony armour provides the highest AC protection as well as Fire and Cold
resistance. The Samurai`s Hi-Kane-Do is similar. It all depends on class.

Well, you have to fight Barlone and his gang :-)).
But it's possible that he will refuse to let you in after you killed
Blienmeis. I did that after I dealt with Barlone.

: Rodan Lewarx can be a pain

: in the but to kill (I'm level 16 and I still can't catch up to him) and

Hm, he doesn't have any spells and his firearms miss a lot (at least for me).
So I didn't find it hard to kill him. Took a few rounds, but he couldn't
do any damage to my chars (they all can hide and have a low AC).
My chars were level 7-10, but had changed profession often.

: D'rang T'rang is fun to kill because he brings all of those

You needn't do that. A "Silence" cast in the first round against every group
should prevent you from the spells. You may use your normal weapons then.
But if you're in a hurry, cast Nuclear Blast on level 7. :-)

Don't know about the Cameo, but the Diamond Ring is only available from
Wiz 6. You have to import a party to get it.
Think it might be the same for the Cameo.

: What is the best Race-Class combo and why?

: My vote is for Faerie Ninja (can get to natural ac -20)

Same for me (i like Faeries :-)).
I think a Felpurr Samurai may also be a very good char. Has a natural high
speed and dexterity and is a smart character.

: What is the best Weapon and why?
Cane of Corpus for my Faerie Ninja. She does 100 damage with a single blow
(with Power Strike). And she has multiple attacks in one round.
Nice things are the special attacks.
The *Light Sword* should be good, too. I will get it this time when I go to
the City of Sky.

: What is the best armor and why?
Don't need armor any more :-)).
But the Ebony Plate for a Valkyrie is a good choice. Also the Mantis Boots and
Gloves gave good protection.
Hint: You may find this and other useful things in the dragons caves.

Greetings
Rolf

Diamond ring can only be imported from Wiz 6. Its also usefull to open
the glass doors in the city of sky.
I have no idea about the cameo locket ... perhaps from Wiz 6 as well ?

And it can use the cane of corpus ...
Great combo, but I like Felpurr Samurai more for some reason.

>What is the best Weapon and why?

Probably the cane of corpus for special effects.
The light sword for the best damage.
And the staff of doom as best long-range weapon.

>What is the best armor and why?

Ebony plate ? Great fire+cold resistance.
With enough patience you can get two sets of them from
the gorror chests.

That means you can only one of them, right ?

I disagree. After your AC gets to around -10 or so, additional
decreases don't really matter -- you're pretty much invulnerable to
normal attack anyway.

I think the best classes are monk and ninja, because of the AC. Ninja
is probably better (ninja garb gives slightly lower AC, and you get
more weapons). But you have to do lots of class switching in order to
get good spells.

The best race is either dracon or elf. Dracon because of the breath
weapon, which, when you have a sufficiently high stamina, is quite a
powerful weapon (it could do, say, 20-30 points of damage to 4-6
monsters, and it almost automatically hits most monsters). But when
you get to higher levels, you have even more powerful weapons at your
disposal.
Elf is good because of the 10 int and piety, which enables you to
easily switch character classes between mage & priest (thereby racking
up spells).

a side point about the Cameo locket: according to the Wiz7
hint book, this is the _only_ item which only males can use:
all other items can be used by either (a) females only, or
(b) males and females. argues slightly towards an all-female party,
which also lets you do valkyries.

Yes other npc's can get to the maps before you do. You can talk to a
friendly npc ask abut lore and he'll mention so and so has this and has
been seen there. I think there's a spell you can cast also. You can
trade for the maps or kill them. If someone keeps showing up that means
you are in the same area as them. Take advantage of it, cast charm or
give them things to get on there good side so they will talk to you. The
most useful thing they can do for you is give you lore to locate other
npc's. Also if you can't find the npc with the map ,don't worry sooner
or later they start killing each other and the maps get grouped in one
person.

Well, there's kind of a "time limit", although in the end it
doesn't really make a difference (I don't think...). If you
take too long getting to a chest, another NPC will get to it
first and take the maps. However, the game will keep track of
who got it and where it is, so you can kill them or buy the map
from them at any time, if you can find them. Which leads me to
my next point...

NPC's are in specific locations. In my latest game, I keep
running into Ratsputing in New City. This is because he happens
to be wandering around New City at the same time I am. Every
time you move, all the NPC's move also, and if you end up
moving to the same space he's in, you will "encounter" him.
Unfortunately, you can't see them until you run into them, so
you can't deliberately avoid them. Hopefully in Wizardry 8 (which
has been "in the works" for how long?) they will change this.

tosh.

Probably should not rest to much, and don't share knowledge with the npc's.
At least thats the theory for me, but it only really works well if you go
running back to fountains a lot or use a cheating party.
I usually just don't care and get the maps from the npc's.

Yeah, that can be annoying ... I once had 5 different npc's meeting me
allmost every step in the funhouse. After I while I simply killed 4 of
them. Don't worry, can't really hurt you, if you make sure to join
the umpani forces before killing any of them.
Oh, you should find a way to get in good relations with the dane as well
later, so that you can buy enough of that dust to disarm the traps !

How do you trade???? I've never found a way for them to voluntarily
hand over the map (or anything) without actually buying it (maybe
stealing, but my characters don't do that sort of thing)..

They all say "if you lend me yours..." about maps, but giving a map to
them is as good as throwing it away. I can get them to talk to me easily

If you get to the chests quick enough, you get the maps. The story
idea is that other people are looking for the maps, and if you take
too long, they get them. I don't know if it's on a time limit, or if
there's just some percentage change of the map disappearing.

Only by killing them.

No, it just means that they're in the area. If you keep walking
around the area the NPC happens to be in, you'll keep bumping into
him.

By the way, speaking of maps:

If you want to read the text of all the maps, visit my web page. I
copied them all down.

I second this sentiment -- sometimes I wanted to specifically seek
them out, and I had to just keep wandering around the city where they
were. I wanted to meet Xheng several times so I could buy several
ninja garbs from him. Things would have been less tedious if I could
see him.

I think that's right about the percentage chance. It means that
theoretically every game is different. There's also a chance that
NPCs will kill each other. I know the one rat was dead through my
whole game.

Correct, but you also don't need all of them. Some will refer to
things you already did without benefit of the map. One is... well, I
won't spoil it for you. Just get the ones that you can, but don't
stress about it.
