I have collected a lot of apples and I have not figured out what they are
good for. I have not seen anything about them in any post or FAQ.

Where's your sense of experimentation and adventure? Like most
items, you can pick them up, and right-click on a character
portait. If you save before doing that, you can possibly figure out
what they do.

Try clicking the apple over one of your party's portrait--you get a
day's food.

"Use" them on a character and your food supply will increase.

Eating an apple increases your food.

It is actually mentioned that you could do something to find out its use
when you click right. Of course using the item can be a problem when you
have genie lamps.

That is exactly what I have done, but I had not noticed any change. Others
have told me that it increases your party's food. I had not looked at that
stat. Thanks to all who answered.

They give you a days food when you eat them. That's all, AFAIK.

The party's food is always visible on the right/bottom of the screen.
