I feel like the kid in the fable where he's the only one real enough to say
the King doesn't have any clothes on, while everyone else keep's saying how
great he looks..........................What am I talking about?
Morrowind, that who.
I am sorry, other than a few screens of the water effect(that you will need
a geforce 3 or better to see) the screen-shots look mediocre at best....
Sorry but the hype machine is working full time on this one..
Of course, if the game play is there who cares about graphics right? Wrong!!
Obviously most care about graphics cause that's all I keep hearing: "ooo,
did you see the water"? "oooo, did you see the water"? "ooo, did you see the
water"?
Wait a minute, basically that's all people say when they mention the
graphic's(most anyway)
Sorry, but this King doesn't have any clothes on.
And o yeah: Nice fog effect in every outside screen shot..
Can you say, Claustrophobic?
Ah memories of U-9 and the ever present fog, and the immersion killing
pop-up of building all of a sudden......................We will see soon I
guess..........................

Who pissed in your corn flakes? For someone who hasn't seen much beyond
selected screen shots you've got one hell of a hair-triggered bad attitude.
Did you just want to be the first person to say "this game is crap"? You

All I've seen are the same couple of screenshots you have. And even from
those I can say that there is NO CRPG out now (or soon to be out) that
compares graphically. You must play a lot of shooters.

To be totally honest, the game could look like Wizardry 8 and I'd still love
it. Daggerfall was about the role-playing system, not the purty graphics,
because we all know how damn ugly that game was. For the ex-Daggerfall crowd
(like myself), the hype is justified, as Daggerfall was (and still is) the
best CRPG I've ever played. There are many others on this board who feel the
same way; hence the hype factory is in full-swing.

Water effects? Who cares about water effects? I certainly don't... I found
most of the screenshots posted rather uninteresting, because they showed
nothing of the game itself - only a recent batch actually showed some
details of the UI (giving at least a slight impression of the gameplay)
instead of just a bunch of useless eye candy...

People who only care about the gfx are not the people this game is intended
for (I hope) - as long as the game mechanics are keeping what was promised,
I would not care if the gfx were 320x200 un-accelerated flat-shaded ...

Naw... not true... I haven't seen the same screenshots apparently (No water
in any of those I have seen) but I still say that Anarchy online looks
better.

I am pumped up big time for this one. From what I have seen, the graphics
are at the very least acceptable. The screens dont look bad by any means,
and when I think low rent CRPG graphics, I still think Arcanum. Compare
the two, and Morrowind kicks its ass graphicly speaking.

The main reason why I am excited is that I enjoyed Daggerfall to a point.
This game sounds like they took most of what was good from Daggerfall, and
then changed almost all of what was bad. The game sounds HUGE, with only a
small portion of it 'random', unlike Daggerfall.

Picking nits, about the only downside I see right now is the combat system,
but it didnt bother me enough to make me not play Daggerfall, and it sounds
similar to Gothic, which I also recently enjoyed.

I wouldn't say they are irrelevant. They are not a high priority compared to
many other aspects, but certainly a great game with great graphics is a lot
better than the same game with bad graphics.

Actually I've played them all (Ultimas, Wizardrys, SSI Gold Box, Black Isle
games, Realms of Arkania) and no other CRPG yet has the same immersive
feeling of Daggerfall. I wish they did believe me.

Actually, the developers said in an interview that there'd be no nudity in
the game. (Apparently, because the game has higher resolution than earlier
ones, any nudity now would require an "adult" classification)

Yes, I picked that up from the "Dracon"-ian Dragon thing (aka Lord Marcus
Dracon). It will be enjoyable to finally see the "Pathesda Pays Beta Sux"
stuff put to rest. I wasn't trying to reason with him (ne're impossible to
do), I was trying to convince others that Daggerfall really was that good.

From Rich Laporte's comments at http://www.gonegold.com Morrowind addresses
all of Daggerfall's shortcomings. Need to see some actual reviews (of the
finished product), but I have to say the game is looking promising.

I haven't seen the water but the past screenshots I've seen have been
amazing. It will probably require a GeForce 2 GTS to play smoothly with the
majority of details turned on but I need a video card upgrade any ways. ;)
Some of the recent previews have been giving me moments of doubt. The
polygon count in some of the entities looks alarmingly less than the promo
shots. I suppose this is the sacrifice needed to make it run on slower
systems but that's fine. Just as long as the details can be maxed out for
when I have a super computer then I'll be happy on that count.

I am sure the gameplay will be fun and the design to be very atmospheric. I
ended up enjoying Daggerfall and Battlespire (not to mention Future Shock,
SkyNET, and Redguard) a great deal. Bethesda just seems to have a nack for
making fun games with a good amount of story. The only thing that seemed to
be missing from those X-ngine games was high quality graphics and that's
something Morrowind will largely deliver on (or at least will once I have my
uber-computer). I'm sold already on Morrowind.

Let's see how I do taking this point for point (even if they are just off
the top of the head type questions)...

It sounds like the quests will be fun and have nice (not jerking) twists to
some of them. This is something that will have to be judged when actually
experienced.

>inane random dungeons,

That's done away with in Morrowind. Instead of the maze like chaos found in
Daggerfall's randomly generated dungeons, Morrowind features designed
dungeons. They should look great and actually have distinctions.

>hundreds of identical towns,

This is definately not as issue with Morrowind. There are a limited amount
of towns in the game with their own layout.

> a carpal tunnel inducing combat system,

The combat was never a problem for me and I actually enjoyed the system used
in Daggerfall and Battlespire. I guess I like a bit of action. Tastes
vary of course.

>and boredom. Finishing the

From all I've read and seen Morrowind seems like more of the same good stuff
from Daggerfall (character generation, fairly open gameplay, logical skill
advancement, etc.) and less of the bad filling (random chaotic dungeons and
towns, lack of direction, limited variety in quests, etc.).

Graphics are irrelevant in CRPGs as I am finding the Bard's Tale 3 just as
enjoyable as I did nearly ten years ago. Still, I do enjoy nice graphics in
modern games. I don't think I could stand a game coming out looking like
the Bard's Tale unless the characters involved were ones I recognized and
had loved from previous titles. I'm glad that Wizardry 8, Gothic, and
Morrowind all have nice worlds to explore with great.3D graphics (not that
3D has ANY bearing on a game's enjoyability [Fallout, Diablo, etc. being
prime examples]).

Don't worry about it. To get us to think that you would have to reply

I've always felt that, in a world where magic works, the stereotypical
dungeon makes perfect sense. I mean, if you're a powerful <blank>, hell

than in a fortified, underground bunker?
