Could someone tell me what is really the difference between these
two games? Which one should I have, and why?

i believe harpoon 97, <cd> has all the foregoing editions incorporated, i
own '97, & original harpoon on 3.5" discs.thats how it appears to me. '97
also includes designers edition scenarios for all 4 battlesets, this adds
upto hundreds<probably>of scenarios you otherwise wouldn't have!

Big differences. I have them both and the two major differences are :

1. HC runs quick, H2 runs slow. If you haven't got a Pentium I wouldn't
bother with H2. I spent 2 years plodding along with a 486 DX4100 and I've
never looked back since getting my P166.
2. HC is much more readily available.

Having put together what looks like a major plug for HC, I actually play
H2 a lot more!

There is a big difference between Harp 97 & II, Harpoon2 has a
completely different interface, and game engine than 97. It has a very
complicated dos extender that makes the game very difficult to
configure properly, (though once configured correctly runs
exceptionally well).

Harpoon 2 is far more sophisticated and realistic than the previous
versions. The new admiral edition includes all battlesets, database,
and scenario editor. My choice has always been harpoon 2, but 97 is
fun to play.

Harpoon 97 is an enchanced version of the famous Harpoon (now call as
Harpoon Classic) from Three-Sixty. Harpoon II is completely difference with
more realisitic and complicate in game play, also more buggy! :-( Harpoon
II can only run in DOS.
Harpoon 97 has only 4 theatre to play or edit. Harpoon II can play in WHOLE
world
Harpoon 97 has limited platform. Harpoon II can play with new edited
platforms (Platform Editor by Tom Wenck) You can even edited a SU-27 to
SU-37 !!
Harpoon 97 run much faster than Harpoon II. You better have an Pentium to
run Harpoon II

the best site of harpoon now

Over the last couple of years I have been tempted to buy Harpoon II
from the shops. But, having seen messages on USENET - Harpoon 2
appears to contain loads of bugs.
Is this correct ?

Didn't I see your wife in a GIF ?

I think the nicest thing is the ability to craft new platforms
yourself. something not possible with Harpoon Classic/97

Hi

Just read a post about a PacWar ftp site and got a beta copy of PWReports
and some scenario variants downloaded -- but there are mentions of a
PW*Edit* program that seems to be no longer available, and of other
scenarios such as a Nimitz enabled "Final Countdown" one ... none of which
have still existing links from said ftp site. Does anyone have further
information as to where these might be tracked down to *still* viable URLs?

I would greatly appreciate any help -- if only I'd had 'Net access when
PacWar first came out!

Also, on a related matter, are there any similar games in the pipeline
(hopefully something better that the awful Koei PTO2)?

Thanks,

Phil
