22-1-2000: Voting forms improved
We've improved the voting forms on Global100.com again. From now on it's
possible to choose your favourites, type your email address and submit the
votes all on the same page. Note that you don't have to type your email
address. In that case you'll be voting as an anonymous user. But you'll lose
some of the benefits that registered users have. If you type a new email
address (with a password) on the voting form you will be registered as a new
voter automatically. We're trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone.
Please let us know whether or not you like it!
18-1-2000: Launch dates
At this time we still don't have a definitive launch date for the
Global100.com web site. We're thinking of either February 1 or February 8,
depending on a few technical issues that still need to be solved. However,
when Murphy's law strikes hard it could very well be one or two weeks later.
We don't know yet, and luckily it's a decision we can postpone until only a
few days before the launch. Whatever it's gonna be, we'll keep you posted!
17-1-2000: Number of visitors is climbing
The number of visitors to the new Global100.com web site is climbing steadily.
We now have over 2000 unique visitors per week, which is very good,
considering that Global100 hasn't officially launched yet. The numbers are
still a far cry from the much larger volume of visitors the World Charts site
enjoys every week. But in about two weeks we will gently push all visitors to
the brand new site. And what about World Charts? It will hand over the
database and all your votes to Global100.com. The site will remain frozen for
a while, directing people to its successor, and standing proud for many years
of faithful service many of us have enjoyed so much...
15-1-2000: Personalized email messages
Today I've been working on an email system that's going to be more than just
a mailing list sending bulk copies of charts. In the near future we're going
to send personalized email messages. When you receive the latest chart via
email, the message should tell you what your current votes are, and your own
favourite titles in the charts should be marked so you can more easily
identify them. The message will also tell you how much your votes are still
worth and if it's time to refresh them yet. This is just one example of things
we're working on behind the scenes. Lots of new features are coming at you
very soon, and you'll have no doubt that Global100.com is the leading charts
engine in the world.
