Often, but not always, When I try to open a game that I'Ve downloaded
a message about "this program has performed an illegal action and will
close" appears. What am I doing wrong. All the downloads I go for are legal
freeware , shareware, or demos.

Many things can cause this, but often, it's because the file you
downloaded is incomplete or corrupted. Check the file size, and compare
it to what the download site says the size is. If they are different,
you lost some data while downloading. Try downloading it from another
site. Usually, the publisher's sites are slower but more likely to be
uncorrupted.
