does anyone have any tips on which one to buy?
I would like one with a good learning curve, as i am only learning to drive
(for real), but would like a realistic racing game.

I really don't care what its about, Grand Prix, Toca, Rally or whatever, i'd
just like a game that people think is a good introduction to driving games
on the PC.

So far i have looked at and Short listed

Grand Prix 2 : its cheap, and a classic apparently
TOCA 2 : its by codemasters, they have a good reputation.

Does anyone have any game that they think i should buy, or which one of the
above i should select?

Any help would be greatly appriceated.

I have a very recent PC so there are no games that are too advanced.

Yes, Viper Racing is a must. Absolutely, the best driving game I've ever
played.

Like others have said, Viper Racing is a no-brainer.
Powerslide is great fun and has good force feedback but absolutely zero
learning curve.
Need for Speed III, of course, for the graphics and good FF too.
For an EXTREME challenge (ie. a learning curve that never ends) you should get
Grand Prix Legends. Nightmareishly difficult at times, but very rewarding.

Probably Viper Racing if you want something approachable, but
realistic. Grand Prix Legends is excelent as well but with a VERY
steep learning curve.

Grand Prix 2 is a "must have". No other game has driver assitance which
allows you to play according to your skill level and thereby to avoid
frustration. A BIG plus is that there is a magic website (www.gp2.com) for
it, where you can update the game every season. I have just loaded the 1999
cars and teams and am ready to race along with the boys again.

The whole Need for Speed series, especially if you have a 3dfx card. Test
drive 5 kicks as well.
Viper racing is crap, colin mcrea good, grand prix legends if you have about
6 weeks solid play and um, the whole NFS series again.

I'd have to agree with Dom on this one. If you want a FUN!!! driving game,
then it's got to be Speed Busters. Where else do you get eated by a T-rex
or captured by a UFO? I watched Cybernet on ITV the other week and they
reviewed 3 racing games. Viper (they didn't like) a rally game on the PSX
(ok) and Speed Busters (They loved it). It hasn't had a bad review 91% from
Future Gamer and Game - Over. I saw it for £24.99 at EB and Game.
And the skins editor is now available from www.speedbusters.com

Have you found the hidden track yet Dom?

F1 from UbiSoft ranks high. I got mine for free with my Act Labs Force RS
steering wheel and pedals. Others are recommending Viper Racing from
Sierra. I've still seen some copies with the trade up to the best rebate.
Send'em a disk from a competitors sports game, and they refund your cost for
Viper Racing. I just got my rebate for Nascar '99 a couple weeks ago for
the orignal EA NHL hockey disk. Picked it up for $3 just to trade in. I
didn't want to part with any of my newer stuff. I heard NFS3 is 'sposed to
be pretty good, too.

Actually Screamer 2 is alot more fun than Speed Busters and the rest of the
overated racers.
It's arcadey but loads of fun, excellent sense of speed. You can download
the demo of the UK course.

Screamer 2 is a good laugh but is a couple of years old now, and the speed
doesn't come close to that of Speed Busters which really surprised me.

The driving demo I keep going back to is N.I.C.E.2 (I got it from
HappyPuppy.com). With the McLaren on the Melbourne track the speeds are
amazing. I also like the way it feels with a driving wheel. Is there an
english version (the demo is geman) available anywhere? I like what I've
seen so far of Motorhead, but I can't find it in stores yet. Both of these
are light, arcade-ish racers with short learning curves.

That is still my favorite racing game! I can't find *any* racing game
that is as much fun to play.

I'm still annoyed Screamer Rally was a European release only =( My
local dealer can't even seem to get a line on it from his European
distributer. <sigh>

Here's wishing for Screamer 3!

classes of racing, upgrades, test tracks, ghost racing, and tuning after
upgrades.

I picked up MotorHead a week ago. This is one sweet game. The graphics are
awesome and the sense of speed is fantastic. The cars aren't real though,
which is the only drawback. But, I've been playing this game to death over
the internet. The netplay is great...its playable lag free (assuming decent
connections) with up 8 players (the most I've been involved in). The
multiplayer alone make this game worth its weight in gold to me. Just my
very late 2 cents worth.

I loved TOCA to bits so I have coughed up for TOCA2 1 week in and I'm
finding extra bits (manual is pants) selections of test tracks practice
support races you name it .I found the graphics better than the demo but
the game play is A1 anyway so you get little time to look at the scenary
(plenty of time when stuck in gravel) it is u.k. oriented based on our
national championship but worth the look DW
