Well gang, the moment I most dread is upon me. The moment
where I have to create and post a message about DOOM not
making it out by the end of the 3rd QTR '93.

Circumstances beyond our control have caused our
schedules to slip and us to perform a reality check on our
previous date range quotes. In order for us to provide you
with the quality, bug-free product you expect from id
Software we are forced to move our release date to
12-10-93. At least we are giving a real release date! (I
can hear the flame throwers clicking on from here.)

Thanks for understanding. (I hope.)

Jay, as a fellow software professional, I understand, and applaud you
for doing this to ensure a quality product.

For the rest of you, Id is faced here with a classic decision to be
made. Ship it on time with bugs, or late with fewer bugs (There's no
such thing as 'no bugs').

If they wait and ship a good product, they'll get flames until it
releases, then everyone will love them.

If they release it with too many bugs, they'll get flames until the
cows come home, even if they fix them later, because everyone will
remember how bad it was (remember Darklands?). Plus, in Id's case
there will no doubt be first release versions with all the original
bugs floating around for years on backwater BBSes and ftp sites, and
people will find them and pop up on the net complaining about the
horrible bugs, even after they've been fixed in later releases.

I think Id id doing the right thing here. I *wish* they could release
it on time and bug free, but if wishes were home runs, even the Mets
might be doing well right now (Do the Mets suck this year, or
what?).

Umm, isn't this truly the first release date you have posted, besides just
saying Q3? Well, better bug free than on time I always say. Just don't
let it happen again. If it does I am going to boycott Id games! (Just
kidding :):):)

October or December? You Americans have one standard, the Brits another

Does this mean when we tell Santa what we want for Christmas,
he'll answer "Go To Hell". :-)
