"Dimpy" stands for Designated Munitions Point of Impact....the specific
point on the ground at which your weapon should be aimed. It's NOT just
the bridge you're attacking, it's the eastern supports for Lead and the
western end for #2. It's not just saying you're hitting a SAM site, it's
targetting the radar van in the middle of the site, while #2 goes after
the auxillary power supply 100 meters away in the tree line.

As much as I hate to do this, all of my reference material defines "DMPI" as
"Desired Mean Point of Impact".

IMO, DMPI stands for Designated Mean Point of Impact. Taking into account
factors like hit and kill propability, target and weapon you calculate the
number of weapons it takes to damage/kill the target.

Smut, "Tracking...tracking...tracking...kill on the MD-80, right hand
turn at 2000'"
Mossie, "Terminate..."
Smut, "Terminate...[laughter...]"
Indeed, Gross Buffoonery on my part...

Mea Culpa indeed a Really Gross Error on my part...sir I go with your
definition.
It's been a while since I used the term every day. Brain cramp on my
part...the general idea being the way I was taught, was each flight
member
has a separate DMPI even on the same target. "Mean Point of Impact"
being the
CCIP's position for the middle of the string of weapons.
DMPI isn't listed in my MCM 3-3 (Mission Employment Tactics: Fighter
Fundamentals F-16)...but that's hardly the issue. My Mistake.

DMPI is Designated Mean Point of Impact, and Robey's usage definition is
correct. It is used to designate a specific impact point in a larger target
area. For example, in an oil field, each flight member will usually be
given a specific DMPI (pump house, tank, control bldg, etc) in a specific
target area. We get a target folder with (hopefully) lots of pics,
descriptions, and coords going from the big picture down to possibly
blowup-photos of each DMPI, and each F-15E crew will study the images and
target area enough to be able to pick out his own DMPI during the target
attack.

shit, somebody blew that one up too."
