I found this message on the Frugalsworld boards. Check it out:

Hi all,
Sylvain is genius !!!

But this is no news... we all knew this by now... :-)

The IADS (in 2D and 3D) and 2D war A2G work is nearing the end. We now have
100x better implementation of what MPS did and this will truly revolutionize
the F4 !!!

When all of this is finalized I will release v0.36 and you can all test
this...

Sylvain succeeded in several things:

#1
Sylvain made dynamic radar cover field on 2D map (i.e. the 2D map has radar
overlay field that shows all current radar coverage in certain point of time -
this overlay field is then updated in regular time intervals) and thus he made
the IADS possible.

In time this would allow us to have local tactical jamming !!!

#2
Sylvain made patch that only IADS detected aircraft (i.e. only enemy aircraft
detected by your side assets: aircraft + AWACS + EWR + airbases + SAMs) show
on 2D map.

#3
Sylvain made NOE (i.e. low level) attack possible in both 2D and 3D war
undetected. You (or AI) can now fly in 2D or 3D at NOE and go totally
undetected if route was not over enemy IADS assets.

Even if route was over IADS asset the enemy would have you detected only as
long you stayed in object coverage. This means that even short detection is
not bad at all since it might be to little time for enemy to direct aircrafts
against you (if no near by enemy aircraft are in vicinity for example).

#4
Sylvain made patch that aircraft in 2D use their radar and visual sensors.
This disabled the MPS 128 km "all see" method. Now only things that they can
detect by their own sensors can be detected.

#5
Sylvain made the 2D IADS where air assets (friendly aircraft + AWACS) and
ground assets (SAMs and static objects like EWR and airbases) can detect and
send info about detected aircraft to friendly aircraft near by. If they are in
range to act - they will act now.

This supplements the #4 above.

#6
Sylvain made the 3D IADS where air assets (friendly aircraft + AWACS) and
ground assets (SAMs and static objects like EWR and airbases) can detect and
send info about detected aircraft to friendly aircraft near by. If they are in
range to act - they will act now.

This supplements the #4 above.

#7
Sylvain made patch that prohibits aircraft in 2D on ingressing A2G mission to
aggressively attack enemy aircraft.

This eliminated 99.99% of all aborts since, in original MPS code, all fighters
aborted their A2G mission as soon as they detected any enemy 128 km from them.
they simply jettisoned their A2G weapons and tried to attack the enemy
aircraft. This, of course, effectively aborted their A2G mission.

I hope I didn't forget anything...

I'm sure I speak for just about everyone when I say thank you and everyone
else so much for being a part of making Falcon 4.0 better than anyone,
including Microprose, ever thought it would be. This just goes to show the
potential of grass-roots efforts when the desire is high.

You're VERY welcome. But to clarify, I am no longer with the realism patch
group myself. I used to be, when they were with ibeta. I just posted this
info on the latest RP news to keep people here informed. I didn't have enough
time for all the work that the realism patch group does, so I left the group a
long time ago, on good terms, unlike Scharmer's, whom we all know was fired
from his last job. <grin>.

P.S. That's bit about Scharmers was just a joke, for anyone who doesn't know.
I would *never* make fun of him. His former coworkers at dogfighter.com do
enough of that for everyone.

You're no longer with with the RP because they dumped your ass on the street when you quit swallowing, Mad Jack. But call up DF and I'm sure you could fill in my old position real quick :)

A *good* Typhoon preview coming this Friday at DF, BTW

That would indeed be desirable. But if you rememer the problems with
the 1.0799 you might remember that one of the reasons was that it was
being held back while waiting for RP4, and once it was released then
the version of 1.0799 had problems with the new version of RP4 so a
lot of problems had to be fixed. All this caused 1.0799 to be delayed
for too many months.

I guess what I'm saying is that it depends, but there is no strict
connections between the release dates of RP5 and 1.09.

However as a person with a foot in both camps I can say with absolute
certainty that running ANY exe (1.08i2 or eFalcon) with RP5 will provide
wildly different results that running it with RP4.1

At the end of the day RP5 is probably about two weeks behind being properly
in sync with eFalcon. As a foot soldier, I do not make or influence
decisions about release dates for either camp. However, as a foot soldier I
know that adding complexity to a mission (or installation) usually just
mucks things up and gets soldiers killed.

Sorry, too much Operation: Flashpoint lately.

Question, at what point in time is the RP group going to take a gander at
the OPFOR flight models??? I mean Mig-23's able to outrun AIM-120's,
Mig-19's able to do zoom climbs from 1000 AGL to 40000 AGL without stalling
is getting kind of ridiculous :-).

We're looking at all of them, hopefully for RP5. We're developing tools to
analyze and design proper FM's right now and have had some success. Once
the tools and data are finished and gathered, we should be able to provide
much, much improved FM's and ones that are quite realistic. They will all
be designed with the same tools so we'll have continuity and balance among
FM's when we release them. Hopefully we can get everyone on the same page
as far as FM's go for RP5...

John Simon

Damn John! That is good news!! Just want to say thanks again to all that
are involved as you have all made this game more than I could have hoped
for and then some.

Gents:

You gentlemen are incredible. I would suggest you combine efforts and
release a cd version at a "donation" to get around MP's claims, if any.
