I have both MS fltsim4 and fltsim5 I run on a 486/33 and it is so slow.
The enhanced graphics are not woth the trouble so I killed fltsim5 and
now use only fltsim4. I just wondered if I am the only one or have any
of you gone back to fltsim4 where you can just enjoy flying from Hilo
to Honolulu and do an IFR approach with out jerking all the way or having
the many other problems I read that people are having.

Exactly the same here. I have a 486/66 and feel FS5 is too slow. If you
scale back the scenery it moves better but FS4 still wins. Also there are so
many add ons available for FS4 and there is much more variety with designing
your own scenery and aircarft etc.

Luckily in Hong Kong FS software is much cheaper so I feel I didn't waste
much money. I'll wait for improvements.

After I bought FS5 and ran it, I looked at the "AS REAL AS IT GETS" on the
box and shook my head. I am running on a 486DX2-66 with 256K L2 cache and
it is still way too slow and jumpy. The graphics are a little nicer than
FS4, but look poor if, like me, Microsoft doesn't support your SVGA card
and you are forced to run in VGA mode.

To really enjoy FS5, you probably need a 90 or 100MHz Pentium, and Local
Bus Video, either PCI or VESA. Getting the processor should be no problem
for you since you work at Intel. :-)

P.S. The Patch FS5a does make the simulator somewhat faster in some
instances by eliminating those really long pauses and fixes a bunch of
bugs.

I have also retired my fs5 in favor of fs4. Not only is fs5
slower, but I have most of the add-ons for fs4.

I have seen FS5 and won't upgrade. I have a large commercial fleet
(though I am missing a couple planes and what to find them, like an
L-1011, the entire McDonald Douglas fleet including MD series and the
Concorde! Am looking for other 747 varients, and the 727. ) It really
ain't worth the hi-res graphics (unless you sport a Pentium) and all the
complaints and patches!! nope, FS4 is it for me!

P.S. If you have any of the above mentioned aircraft or others
interesting COMMERCIAL aircraft (am looking for different airlines now,
in addition to short-haul and regional airline crafts) leave me info or
sent it along.
Any help will be appreciated!.

I disagree. I run FS 5.0a on a 486DX/33 with generally smooth
graphics. However, I am running it in VGA mode, not SVGA and this
speeds up the frame rate quite a bit. The graphics on FS4.0 are just
too primitive for my taste.
