IL2 1946 still has a strong following and it should be cheap to buy
these days. For a first taste it'd be my recomendation as it lends
itself to casual play via hyperlobby.

On the modern front if you also like A2G and study sims the Black
Shark is a good online experience - you'll probably want to join a
squadron though.

For modern jets I believe that Falcon4 Allied Force still has a strong
"squadron" following.

Count "LockOn: Flaming Cliffs" in to, via Hyperlobby.
For Falcon you need to go squadron based, finding an active open server is
not always easy.
Most people you'll find in IL-2 1946, some nights Hyperlobby surpasses 1000
people.

Dunno if you're still about but there's also the new "Rise of Flight"
which is a WW1 sim and is starting to get an online following. I've
just purchased the download version from Direct 2 Drive as I haven't
seen it retail yet and local mail order stores were much more
expensive. A couple of squadmates were raving about how much fun they
were having online so I couldn't resist.

It looks like a great game! However, since you've to log on to a
server, even to play offline, it's a no sale for me. Especially since
you've to buy add on airplanes. But when they go burst you'll possibly
lose all your content...

Cheers!

I'm not sure why but... I bought this several months ago and I cannot get
it to
run on any of my 3 computers here. I've updated it, installed everything it
asked
me to install, but when I hit "PLAY" nothing at all happens. No disk
activity, no
error message, no game. Nothing. Occasionally I try to figure out what's
wrong
but I just don't see what it is. I have literally dozens of othe games and
sims and
they all run just fine.

Rise of Flight however, elludes me. I'm giving up for now. I'm not sure
it's worth
the hours of troubleshooting I've done to get it running.
