I recently installed Team Apache on my Riva 128 equipped system. On the
Team Apache web site it states that this title supports native support for
Riva128, ATI Rage Pro, 3DFX, and several others. After playing the game and
then going to the change
video driver screen, I do not get a choice for Native Riva128. If I go to
my Team Apache folder and open the mprofile.dat file it lists the other
video cards as being present or not but not my Riva. I e-mailed Mindscape
tech support and their reply back was that they are unable to support any of
their titles which are running on a Win98 platform. Does anyone that is
also running a Riva128 video card have native
Riva as an option in the select video driver screen ?. I tried to add what
would appear
to be the proper entry in the mprofile.Dat file (RIVA_NATIVE PRESENT 0) but
the
mprofile.dat file is apparently rewritten every time you go to the change
video driver screen.

"Native Riva" is an oxymoron. Riva only has support through
D3D and OpenGL. I've never heard a single peep about anything
that suggests that Riva offers a native API. (I had an invitation to
their "training camp" for programmers and if there was anything
more than that I'm sure it would have appeared in the program list.)

I know that Riva does not have a native API, but isn't this also true of the
ATI Rage Pro cards also ? The mprofile.dat file in my Team Apache directory
lists NATIVE_ATI
NOTPRESENT 0 as one of it's entries. I was curious as to why it would
recognize that I did not have an ATI card installed, that I do have a 3dfx
card installed, but no listing one way or the other for my Riva128.

The RIVA chips don't have a native API and therefore can't be
supported natively. Your pretty much stuck with either Direct3D or
OpenGL games as that is all the RIVA supports. Must've been a typo on
their website.

"Native Riva support" -- now there's a contradiction in terms! :-)

The Riva uses Direct3D and OpenGL, and has no native API. If you set TA for
Direct3D, it should use your Riva.

Well - and this is an educated guess - what's probably up is that as you
may have heard, making D3D games usually involved writing special
sections of code for each board to keep them happy and work around
whatever inherent weirdnesses they may have. In this case it's possible that
the original D3D code for TA was designed specifically for the Riva (thus
the mistake about calling it "native") and upon detecting an ATI, it would
instead use a different section dedicated to the ATI instead.

There's no such thing as "Native-Riva" support. They can tune
Direct 3D to support the Riva well, but that's it. Nvidia has no
native API for the Riva-128 like 3Dfx does with Glide or Rendition
does with Redline. You must choose Direct 3D in Team Apache.
That should do the trick.
