curse of monkey island - hint needed

I could use a hint - I'm stuck. I'm playing the "easy" version, and have
made it to Blood and Skull Islands. I've started the Volcano, and
gotten the cursed ring off Elaine's finger with the hand lotion. I've
"died" into Stan's tomb, and gotten the life insurance policy. I can't
cash it in, however, because I can't prove to Stan that I've died.

I am stuck on two fronts - I can't play King Andre for the diamond, because
I have no money. I can't get the book off the skeleton in the Hotel, so
I can't get into the Goodsoup crypt to get the ring. I'm assuming that
I have to do one of these things next.

Get the death certificate from the office

There won't be a death certificate until after you're a member of the
Goodsoup family. You need the book on the skeleton in order to
convince Goodsoup that you're kin. In order to get it, you have to
nail the bed to the floor. You will find some nails on the side of
the coffin in which you were buried. You will need one more nail. If
you go into the room with the portraits, you will see a nail in the
wall. Bang it through with the mallet (located by the dog that bit
you) and it will fall on the floor in the hall.

This will set the ball rolling, because once you have the book, you
can convince Goodsoup that you are kin, and then you will be buried in
the Goodsoup crypt, and then you will find a death certificate in the
Goodsoup hotel, and then you can cash in your insurance, and then you
can play Andre for the ring.
