Yay, thanks to the tips I have gotten from you helpful folks I got the music
working in Monkey Island I! However--and I am not complaining, just curious--I
just have it as music out of the PC speaker. Is this the only way the music
was supported for this game? It sounds pretty good to me, but I just wondered.
Thanks!

MI1 supported pc speaker, adLib, soundblaster, roland and gameblaster
if I'm not mistaken. I remember I always used gameblaster on my old
soundblaster because I thought it sounded better.

In a DOS environment, change to your Monkey Island directory and type
monkey /?

You'll see a list of options. Try to choose g for GameBlaster or r for
Roland. If this doesn't work, try a for Adlib - this one should always
work.
So, instead of just starting monkey.exe you need to provide some
parameters. My command line looks like this:
monkey v mo a

I hope this helps.
