I'm trying that. I lure him over to the left with a fresh chicken (after the
mustard is wiped off). Even when he has both feet off the perch it won't
come loose.
I guess I'll have to keep on trying. Maybe it's my timing.
I had the same problem. I believe that it's more of a 'handling' problem,
though. You have to be 'just so' in clicking the hand on the perch. If
you aren't then parrot eats the chicken and you have to go and tediously
get a new one. Of course, you don't do that because you reload a save
game. And this takes you out of the story. I experienced the same
'handling' problem thing with the glass and the starling puree.
All a bit naff really, since you've obviously understood and solved the
problem, you just can't execute it in the precise way that the game
developer requires.
Someone else wrote about the 'feel' of this gaming no working for them. I
agree. And it's these situations that make me feel that way.

The trouble with life is that you are halfway through it before you realise
that it's a do-it-yourself thing.

Exactly, it is all a matter of timing and luck......The "fresh chicken"
procedure is correct ( I assume you sent the chicken to the Parrot's Room
via Suc-u-Bus, to keep it hot ), so all you have to do is keep trying.
Good Luck!
