How in the world do you solve the magic floor puzzle in the forest age? I've
tried so many things, looked into uhs hints, walkthroughs, but it just won't
work. Can it be my videocard that the pattern doesn't come up like it should
or something?? any help?

Could you be more specific about which magic floor puzzle?

I can think of two -- one with hexagonal floor tiles, one with an
apparently random pattern. (Or a third, if you count floors which go
up and down. :)

Whoops, sorry about that. I mean the floor thats linked to the 5 button
puzzle (on the balconies).
The one with the dark/light areas on the big floor, with all the lines. Goal
is to open a door.

You say you've read hints files, so I'll just give the full solution:

The hint for this puzzle is one of the stained-glass windows in the
Kadish cathedral. (You link to this room from a book on a large
tree-stump near the beginning of Kadish Tolesa. It's actually part of
the D'ni city, not the Age of Kadish, but you can't get out of the
room except by linking back.)

The window indicates which buttons you should press. Start with them
all off, then press buttons 2, 3, and 5.

The floor pattern should now be approximately the same as the pattern
shown in the stained-glass window. Go downstairs and walk partway
around the *outside* edge, counterclockwise -- don't actually enter
the pattern yet. You're heading for a spot which is marked (on the
stained-glass window) with a red dot.

From this spot, you can follow a path to the center. It's a dark path,
not light -- or do I have that backwards? It's not the one you think
it is, anyway. Move slowly; don't use the run key.

When you reach the center, if you've stayed on the path, the exit
should open.

Thank you for your hints, I tried it, and I know the general idea but I keep
wandering around to the center without accomplishing anything.

My floor is like this:

The gallery thing I found:

The floor I found from someone else:

What am I missing here? or is my videocard screwing things up? :( i really
want to move on to finish the game

Hm. Your screenshot does look strange. I don't know whether it's a
real software problem, or a hardware problem, or your gamma/contrast
settings.

Have you tried resetting the Age book? (Push in the lower tab on your
Relto shelf.) You'll have to start the Age over from the beginning,
but you're not very far in.

(uru_001.jpg is what it looked like to me. You can see the "dark path"
starting on the right and zig-zagging in to the small circle in the
center.)

If it is a graphics problem, you can probably set the buttons
correctly, and then walk in blindly, following someone else's screen
shot.

Can you reduce the gamma setting on your video card? Your screen shot
looks like the lighting is being "washed out" on your video settings.

I will try walking it on the other screenshot, but can you tell me what
should happen? Sometimes when I walk around some tiles start to
flicker/light up, i guess thats a bad thing?

I wonder if this is like the problem some people had with
the puzzle at the end of Schizm 2, where the four columns were
supposed to have some number symbols on top - but with some
computers the symbols didn't appear. That was apparently
related to the video card - or maybe the driver version.

Walking on the floor shouldn't cause anything to light up or go dark.
That's controlled solely by the buttons.

When the exit opens, you'll know. It's clearly visible.

Ok ppl, I did it! it really really woulnd't work on my pc, even not when
'guessing' the path from the pic, so I installed it on my notebook. That
really looked horrible with textures all messed up, but the path u had to
walk was -so- clear! It must have been a videocard (or maybe driver) issue.
So now I can continue on my pc with that savegame..

thanks for all the suggestions!
