Alone in the Dark 3 - Can I run it from CD ?

AITD3, as you know, takes some 35 Meg of hard disk space. All the
installation program seems to do is copy all the CD files to the HD.
Then when I run the thing, it still wants the CD in the drive (for CD
sound, I think), but it gets some of the installed files from CD!

On the other hand, if I try running the aitd.exe from the CD, the program
wants to see an indark3.cfg file.

Does anyone know of a way of running AITD3 with minimal HD usage - just
config and save files on the HD, I guess?

As it is, I have to put the files on a compressed drive, and then I can't
get enough conventional memory to run the prog with sound, due to the
doublespace drivers.

I don't know if you can run the game from CD,
but I can assure you that it really needs
every bit of the 592k.
