For those who responded to my previous question, thanks for the help. It
was just what I needed, but a new problem came up after I typed in cd\pandora.
... it says "no CD-ROM Drive available, aborting the game. Hit any key to
continue". Why is this coming up?

You have not stated your OS, which suggestions you took, nor any other
details so you are forcing us to take wild guesses at your problem.

CD\pandora can't possibly give the error stated as you are not
attempting to run a program nor change from a hard drive to a CDROM.
That means you are not reporting accurately what you are trying.

My guess is you are attempting to use DOSBox. If so, then you are not
correctly mounting the required CDROM either directly or within the
dosbox.conf file.

My OS is Win98. I have two older comps (5+yrs) both the same and both say
the same problem when I try to run the game in DOS. I do exit windows and
restart in DOS and have this problem. My previous question was what to type
to start the game because I lost the manual years ago and couldn't remember.
I don't know what dosbox is, unless you mean the one from the start/program.
I don't understand why I can't run this game with the origonal disks on
either computer.

Because for DOS you have to load the CD drivers (and mouse and any other
hardware you might have like sound) manually in the autoexec.bat file.

You're not running Windows, therefore the computer does not know you have
those things installed. Below is an example (or template, if you will) of
what an autoexec file may look like:

@echo off
SET SOUND=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS; C:\; C:\PANDORA
LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:123
LH C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE
DOSKEY
CLS

Adjust it to your own needs, see also http://www.computerhope.com/ac.htm

PS: google is your friend :)

Well, MSCDEX.EXE actually - you will also need a DEVICE line in config.sys
in the case of the CD ROM drive.

But it's all explained very well in the page I posted earlier.

1) Pandora Directive will run just fine in Win98 without using pure DOS.
It will depend on your audio card for the most part. If it is in the
list of cards in the games sound.inf, there should be no problem. Create
a shortcut to the Tex4.exe program and indicate that it should ignore
Windows.
The game runs quite well on my WIN98SE system as above.

2) To get the game to run in DOS you must make sure that your audio card
has DOS drivers installed and that your CDROM driver is installed. The
audio driver is up to you unless you supply more information. A typical
CDROM installation follows. I don't show any audio drivers.

autoexec.bat

@ECHO OFF
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
REM The next line assumes mouse.exe in the root directory.
REM Adjust it as needed if the target is mouse.com which may be in
C:\Windows\Command
C:\mouse.exe
REM Mscdex.exe is normally in C:\Windows\Command
lh mscdex.exe /d:mscd0001

config.sys

dos=high,umb
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /testmem:off
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe
devicehigh=C:\WINDOWS\emm386.exe noems
; An alternative to the above follows.
;devicehigh=C:\windows\emm386.exe ram
; Look for an equivalent driver on your system or CDROM installation CD.
; This file will probably be in the COMMAND directory.
devicehigh=c:\realmode\aoatapi.sys /d:mscd0001 /UDMA
