Dreamworks responds to bad Trespasser Reviews

Well, some people call it an adventure game. :)

Game-Interviews.com has an exclusive interview with Brady Bell of
Dreamworks. He responds to the bad reviews of Trespasser and
questionsabout it being a performance hog. Very interesting read.

Here's an interesting quote from the interview.

"GI: Did Trespasser sway from the original design/concept at all? Are
there any things that you found just didn’t work in actual practice?

BB: Oh yeah. There’s a dozen features we wanted to add from day one.
Multiplayer, extended hardware support, a nice lighting model, and
more species of dino’s would’ve all been cool. Eventually you have to
say, Okay, it’s not perfect but we need to ship the game and let go.
Believe me, we would’ve loved to polish & tweak for another six
months, but fun as game development is… it’s a business, you do the
best you can, and ship the game."

apparently not the proper way to do a buisness. if you wanna be
inovative and have a title that will really stand out and sell you goa
go the extra mile. look at all the game makers out there who make huge
block busters. (Square, treasure, even konami, sorry for picking just
console makers, but they do tend to create the most inovative games
while many pc makers are pileing out good looking pieces of shit)

I just got a Playstation a couple of weeks ago..so far I only have
five games, but each one (Resident Evil II, Parasite Eve, Xeno Gears,
Metal Gear Solid and MediEvil) tells twice the story that most PC
adventures tell. I don't mean to be knocking my PC (I love my PC) but
it's just that the Japanese have such a knack for story telling.

Jeff, I've got to agree with you there. Lucasgames and LucasArts has
always seemed to go that extra mile in my opinion. Many of their games (I
haven't played their Star Wars types games so I can't comment on those)
are relatively bug free and I can't remember too many of them needing a
patch to fix MAJOR problems. That's why I buy LucasArts games without a
blink of an eye because I know I'm getting quality stuff (they have good
beta testers too!).

The comment about the console makers going the extra mile...well, their
stuff can't be too buggy because they don't have the luxury of people
being able to dial up and download the REAL GAME (i.e. patch) from the
manufacturers. The game needs to be PERFECT or at least as perfect as
they can make it before putting it out. They only get one chance when
they burn that CD or cartridge. That's the mentality that PC game makers
used to have, but not anymore. The internet seemed to have made
programmers lazy because they can now make games that are less than
perfect and "patch" it up later. In fact some even put features that
should have been put in the original release in a later patch. That's
ridiculous to me.

actually they sliped my mine. lucas arts owns in the pc world too.
actually I think grim fandango is there buggiest game..and thats only
cause of a slightly annoying problem like getting stuck and unable to
get free, something that could kill a few hours of gameplay for
someone who is unaware of this problem.

but its not the bugs an stuff that worry me, atleast half of those
problems are user error, either there screwing up or dont have the
right drivers. but its all the promised features and features said to
be in a game. apparently a game makers "word" is no longer good and
everyone ends up going back on them. I am sure if you created a clean
engine, and use directx wich is made to connct the game to the
hardware instead of akeing your own connection, then you shouldnt have
any problems. any that do arise should be the fault of there direct x
drivers not your game.

unreal and quake2, real lookers on the pc, no story, quake 2's
multiplay saves it...

final fatasy 7,8, metal gear solid. great graphics (for psx and often
final fantasy can dish out some amazing effects and graphics at time,
especialy 8) and all have storys to kill for.

i'm also just getting xenogears. Looks impressive, the characters are
2d but attacks and "gears" (Mechbots) are 3d..and so are all the towns
and terrains... and tehy all look great, I guess when you dont need
to use polygons on characters you can make even more complex levels...

oh, xenogears intro RULES YOU!! ;)

Thats another thing, no on has intros quite like any of the console
games out there. tekken, soul blade..
