If Eidos decided to make Lara flat, would that lead young boys to
believe flat chests make the ideal female and young girls to believe
that they should not grow breasts? NO. What if they gave Lara a big
nose, or large feet, or small ears, or big teeth, or no hair?! It's
just the appearance that they created for her. It's a natural part of
the female body (let's not start splitting hairs and considering the
possibility that Lara's breasts are implants). The 3D designers had
the artistic freedom to make Lara look anyway they wanted to. They
gave her big pretty eyes, full lips, and full breasts. They did so
because they could. And, really people, are they THAT big? I've seen
much larger breasts on Jerry Springer's Too Hot For TV.
What about the male characters we've seen in games? Duke Nukem has
blond hair and large muscles. Doesn't that lead young girls to
believe the ideal man has large muscles, and young boys to believe
they have to look that way? Isn't it degrading to men?
No!
So quit crying about Lara and her hooters!
-T
PS: I don't own and I've never played the Tomb Raider games.
So do I. I say if a desireable female character with (it just so
happens) significant hooters is the toy of choice for teen boys, then,
~great~. They are in the same club as the ten year old girls who play
with similarly endowed Barbie (tm) dolls. Big Whoop!
I personally am very encouraged by all this attention paid to heroic
female figures with tits. In times past, a gal with tits was expected
to just sit still and look cute...now she is an adventurer with guns.
What's the problem!?

I thought ALL females had tits. Amelia Earhart had 'em. So did Susan B.

Do you really think Lara Croft is a good role model for anyone? I think
she's a psycho. Her eyes are nothing but pupil, like an insect's. I
think she's terrifying.

It *is* a misportrayel. For some reason, most men already think that a
female isn't desirable unless she has breasts the size of a comic book
character's, and the imageing of Lara Croft doens't help at all. Don't tell
me it's genetic, or homones; it's taught. And society doesn't even have to
teach it anymore; "Tomb Raider" does it for them.
I, personally, wouldn't care very much if, at some level I am unable to
describe, I didn't feel that it's fundamentally *wrong*. That's most
people's so-called "problem". And it's not a problem. It just shows that
society hasn't yet degraded as far as we thought.

Uh huh, they've done scientific studies on Lara's beasts. I'm sorry I
didn't bother to consult the scientific community on this matter
before posting my opinions. Somehow I assumed they were busy with
trivial matters such as medical research and conservation of the
planet's resources. I didn't realize they found Lara's breasts to be

Who says Lara is desirable? I have never heard of a man anywhere ever
saying "Gee, that 3D chick is hot!" It's all these complaining people
who have managed to make Lara out to be the "ideal woman." BAH! Her
eyes are all weird looking, she's got all these sharp edges becaues
the 3D technology of the time can only handle a certain number of
polygons and no curved surfaces (try turning that feature on in Unreal
and see what I mean). How can a female with no curved surfaces be
desirable?
Besides, Lara's sculpted form has other attributes to be found
desirable.

OK, let's say for the moment that society teaches that large breasts
are desirable. So what? Maybe they are. Large penises are
desirable, too. You don't see men crying out against the Godzilla
promotions because it uses that awfully sexist phrase "bigger is
better!"

Funny, the only people I know who "make some sort of fuss over Lara
Croft's breast size" are male. And usually teenage ones at that.
All my close female friends think Lara is fantastic and in many cases
turned them into gamers. I've asked some of them if they would have
played Tomb Raider if the main character was some musclebound bloke, and
all of them said they wouldn't have bothered.

The funny thing about Lara's breasts is that they seem to grow and grow
with every game (can't wait until Tomb Raider IX where Lara will have 10
gallon breasts that must be carried by two male slaves... filthy me,

because that's the only thing you can see when playing the game...)

WOW!!! This going to be on Gamepen. I never play Lara too.
Referring to later statements:
I don't find large muscles attractive. Most people on Earth don't. You
have made many gross generalizations. Sure, most *American* women probably
find large muscles or genitels (those who have children reading, please
excuse the reference) [and tiny brains] attractive, along with some other
prosperous Western Hemispheric countries, but in most other places, they
don't. In fact, most civilizations prefer large property holding and
hypocampuses (for those who don't know, the memory center of the brain.) In
Zimbabwe, an overweight female is more desirable that a skinny one- it's a
sign of good food and a fairly easy lifestyle, which means good money.
Also, many people with exceptional intelligence care about nothing but
good character and some idea of what's going on in the world.
The Simpson's hairstyles are, with a lot of mousse, hairspray and wire,
possible. Try it yourself.
And you don't have to be so sarcastic. It's really very pointless.

I don't think many people in Zimbabwe or any other third or second

preferences in the opposite sex is a strange thing to raise in this

All this quantitative analysis of Lara's breasts is really beginning to

Heh heh.. A place where you can get new games for *cough* 3-4 $.
Yeah sure, no one has heard of Duke Nukem there.
Btw, in case you are wondering, I have been there and few other
places in far east, so I am kind of talking from
experience (Not that I buy those strategically priced
games :-) .. Really !)
And btw, how many of 26 million in US have heard of
Duke Nukem? The place where I work (and it's directly

three I can talk about Quake and such stuff are the

You misunderstood me here. I was trying to contradict Thomas Evan's
disagreement that "many people" have not heard of Duke Nukem and Lara
Croft in third world. Obviously, some people will own computer and
play computer games whatever country that is, but what is the
percentage? If it only cover 1% of the population, would that made
the statment "many people haven't heard of Lara Croft in the third
world countries" be incorrect?

Lara is a D-cup, at best. How tall is she supposed to be, 5'2"? Look
how big her head is compared to the size of her body.
Now if she was 8' tall then you could say she has "ten-gallon" size
breasts. FWIW, I grew up in the USA West, and a *ten gallon hat* will
only hold about one gallon, tops.
She is a cartoon character. Cartoons are often proportioned strangely,
usually for comic effect. I've known many RL women who are built that
way, what's unreal is how firm and hard her breasts are, but maybe she
had implants. :)

Exactly. When game companies (most of which are American companies
with most of the rest based in the UK) plan their target audience,
they're not thinking, "what would an 18-25 year old Zimbabwe male want
to play?"
No.
The largest market in computer games is Americans, likely followed by
UK. That's the reason why the popular computer games are in English.
Even if every person in Zimbabwe has a copy of Tomb Raider, it would
still only be a handful compared to the millions sold in the US.

How did you find out what Gordon Brown's secret identity was. Anyway our
super duo of Dan Blair and Duke Nukem will be more of a match for old
President Free Willy and the puritan 'Starr' brigade.
Steve
According to the US Census Bureau, the estimated US population as of
July 1, 1998 is approximately 270 million.
http://www.census.gov/population/estimates/nation/intfile1-1.txt
So even if only 5 percent of the United States' population has heard
of Lara Croft, you're talking about over 13 million people. That's
more than the entire population of Zimbabwe, which is about 11
million.

Actually it was popular for girls to have small or almost no breasts for a

D-cup? No way! Looking at the size of her body, I'd say it's E-cup.
Basically, 34E - in TR, but less in TR2 - which seems to me about 34DD
at least. Looking at her sideways would help you to measure her bust
cup.
