Possible Evil spoiler below.....

Based on the D'ni numbering system where is eyeball # 1, I have found
2-5 but the first one eludes me.

The book beside it gives you the hint where to look for the _actual_
#1 ball. You may see it but you won't get close to it, so some hard
thinking needs to be done.

Did you learn the numbers in the school room ?
So when yes, you know the symbol for 1.
The wooden marble for the first animal is NOT
directly reachable.
Look for the place on the dschungle-isle
where to visit the big fish,
called the warkh.
There are two ligthable bowls.
In one you get a surrounding view from the
crater filled with water.
Notice the shadow of the silhouette !
Remember the animal which has the same shape
at the stones !
