1.8 gig. Wow, that's what I call a long install procedure.
GLC->1.8 gig. Wow, that's what I call a long install procedure.
it WAS a long procedure. took me two SCSI cards before i found one that
worked. :)

. SLMR 2.1a . Clinton - Army: Sergeants get to play with their Privates
I often install CD games to the hard drive to play them better. T7G
was one that didn't work at all. First, it needed the physical presence
of the CD in the drive from which it was playing (it tested for it for
some reason). Also, it needs music off the CD (which I believe has to
be the same drive you're playing the game off of). How, praytell, did
you get it to work? As I said, I've been doing that for quite a while
with many other games, but CANNOT get T7G to work in that manner.
(no- it isn't really much faster. It's made to run at a set speed,
marked by 100% in the cd drive speed and video speed indicators--that
way in the future when we play it off drives that are 1000 times faster
it won't choke and die).

i'd thought about running it before, but never got around to it. :)
many games, have cd-audio, and therefore cannot be run from the HD. ie.
loom, or kq6.

the only portion of t7g that has ACTUAL cd-audio music is in the intro
when the house pops up. other than that, all the
audio/video/music/speech are contained in the .gjd files on the disc.
keep in mind, that i never checked it to see if the intro would work or
not. <matter of fact, i'm gonna go try right now. gotta go copy 700
megs to the drive. :)> ok, it worked. even the intro. although i did
not get the cd-audio part. <not suprising> strange thing though. i had
left the dic in the cd drive the first time, and even though it was
running from the Hd, it went to the cd to grab the music part. so, i
popped out the disc, and it continued on minus music.
the trick is to change the groovie.ini file. i stumbled upon this. i
previously <when i had 2 hard drives> had the cd set for drive e, and
thus, t7g had set up to be run from drive e. well, i went to play it
<from drive d> and it kept asking me to insert disc 1. so i went in and
looked at the groovie.ini settings. here's mine.

it was originally set for datadir=e:\t7g. so i switched it back to
d:\t7g and it worked. well, that's when i went and copied the files to
the hd. then i changed it to like it is now. i'm sure that you could
put the files in anydir that you like, but i figured that would be the
easiest way for me to get it to work.
JAD->with many other games, but CANNOT get T7G to work in that manner.

i don't buy that. i suppose that if you had a single speed cd-rom, and
installed the WHOLE thing to the hd, then you would notice a difference.
however, it's like trying to run 93 octane gas in a car that only
requires 87. you won't get any EXTRA out of it, but you can bring it
closer to it's true potential. now all i have to do is get a 486 <or
pentium> and faster video, then it would be better.
however, i did notice excess speed in some cases. otherwise, it looked
a lot like it does from the cd.
good luck and let me know weather or not you get it to work.
