Well if that didn't cheer you up...
On the brighter side of things.....I'll buy Overseer from you if you decide
you don't want it! :-) Or perhaps we could work out a lovely trade for
something else you might want?
Regardless of my desire to have Overseer.....good luck in making it work for
you. I wish I knew how to help you with that.

I have a patch for Overseer that I got a while back. It upgrades the
program to version 1.04, but the original program has to be installed before
you can install the update.
Does anyone know if there is a version that is later than 1.04? ...or how to
get tech support?
Thanks for your kind encouragement, Lori.

Microsoft ate them.
You can find some information here
http://www.microsoft.com/games/texmurphy/overseer/downloads.htm
and here
http://www.microsoft.com/Games/texmurphy/overseer/tipsandhints.htm
but I didn't see anything about XP.

They ate my browser too! (or blocked it, anyway)
I'm mad enough to spit, and I just might.

Here is what you do:
1. Put in the DVD (or CD1) and quit out of any error messages or auto
play that appears.
2. Open the DVD (or CD) in My Computer or Explorer.
3. There will be a file called "autorun.exe" - right click on that.
4. Choose "Properties".
5. Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
6. Put a check mark in the box for "Run this program in compatibility
mode for: Windows 95".
7. Click "Ok".
8. Double click the "autorun.exe" file.
9. Overseer will install just fine and (so far) play just fine.
I have a Pioneer DVD drive and I got an error at the beginning that
said the program could not find the MPEG2 device. I ignored it. I
got the dialog choices during the initial conversation with Chelsey
(sp?), but no sound or video. After I got to Tex's office, the game
ran fine. (We'll see what happens when I get to the next FMV sequence
-- I've only been running it for 10 minutes, but I was so excited to
get it installed that I had to send this message.)
Anyway -- it's a start. Better off than I was (at least it's
installed).
Thanks for all of your help and suggestions,
Doug

Lots of people reported problems with the DVD version of the game. The
trouble with that version was that the program tried to switch the computer
into a DVD player mode to play the cut-scenes. The CD-only version didn't
attempt anything so fancy, it just displayed the movies the same way as UAKM
and PD did. If you have both, try the CD version.
I only had the CD version (I'm in the UK) but I remember it did crash a
number on times when I played it under Win 98. However, I could reload the
last save and continue.

It figures the Xing one was third from the last choice.....but at
least it all works now -- credits, cut scenes, EVERYTHING.
WAHOOOOOO!
