Zork Nemesis was a good game, but that was back in the days when there were
a lot more adventure games being released than now. In the last few years
they have not been many. There are still some being released here and there,
for us die-hard adventure players though to keep us going. Have you played
any adventure games since Zork Nemesis? I am presently playing "Murder on
the Orient Express" based on Agatha Christie book. I like it. But a lot of
interrogating passengers on the train, which you may like or not. I also
playd "And Then there were None" based on Agatha Christie book, and "Evil
Under the Sun". Not long ago, I played "Sherlock Holmes Nemesis" and I have
"Sherlock Holmes, The Awakened", which I got last week. Also, I played
"DreamFall" which was the sequel to "The Longest Journey" though a
completely different story. I liked it. There are other I can't remember
right now, but if you look at one of the game sites such as
www.gameboomers.com and www.justadventure.com you will see whats for sale
and what games are coming out.

Maybe you'd wish to play the original Zork game from mainframes:

if in doubt how to go through it, see:

Evil Under the Sun is the only one I've tried so far this decade. It
was okay but it had quite a bit of character interrogations too, and
that dragged the adventure down a bit.
Also, it struck me as awfully linear gameplay, since you had to
complete a list of things before it would take you to the next "day".
I don't recall the classic games of the 90s being like that.

Then you probably wouldn't like any Agatha Christie games, as they all
involve quite a lot of interaction with characters in the game. I am playing
"The Awakened" which is a Sherlock Holmes games and its quite a lot of
talking too. Did you play "The Longest Journey"? A lot of people liked it,
but some said too much talking. I liked it and the sequel called Dreamfall
came out a few years ago and I liked it but some people didn't.

Some of the 90's games had a lot of interaction between characters, but if
you mean interrogations such as Evil Under the Sun, or Sherlock Holmes
Nemesis, they are detective type games so you there is interrogations. Some
are linear. When you mention "next day" what came to mind right away was
"Dracula Unleashed" which would be from mid 90's I think and that was a game
you had to do things in order or the day would not end and you had to do the
day over again. I finally used a walkthrough to avoid frustration, but I
liked the game OK. But there was probably not as many games that were so
linear.
I am thinking of games like Kings quest 6 and 7. They had to be done in
order before moving on. Maybe you don't mind the interaction, but don't like
interrogations in games. I tried Zork Nemesis not long ago and I think I
tried it in Dosbox, but the mouse was too fast, so I didnt get far. Keep
looking. You will find something.

Negroes on Mars is supposed to be fantastic, I've heard.

ZN was an excellent game and one of my favorites but those days are
gone. Off the top of my head, others I've played that you might enjoy
but are also old:
Zork Grand Inquisitor
The Black Dahlia
Also, Grim Fandango wasn't bad.
