Thanks. I'll try this.

Try "Ultima 7 for Beginners" at
http://users.wantree.com.au/~rsd/ultima7.htm . It refers mainly to U7
under Win95, but there's also a brief introduction on DOS that might
prove useful.
Enjoy!

Here are the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files I use for Ultima 7 with MS-DOS
I assume, since it's only 8 meg, that you are using win 3.1/dos 6.22. Check
your config.sys and autoexec.bat files for any lines that read "load" and
change to "loadhigh" (if it can't loadhigh, it will load to conventional
memory). Look in the documentation to see if the program expects 'extended'
or 'expanded' memory. If it says extended, add the /noems switch to the
'emm386' line. Also comment out ('rem' in autoexec, ' ; ' in config)
anything that loads TSRs or anti-virus programs.
If that don't work, you might check in an 'RPG' newsgroup, since Ultima is
an RPG, not an 'Adventure' game. Or, give the exact error message you are
getting, and the operating system (dos x.x, win x.x, etc.) on the machine
in question. If you include your config.sys and autoexec.bat in your reply,
I/we'll help you fix it up.
(I ran Ultima on my 486/33 8meg dos 6.0/win 3.1with no problem (no boot
floppy disk))
