Help!

I ran into the Ch. 4 bug where Gerde won't inform me of the phone
call, so I downloaded the 1.11 patch and the windows save games from
the web page. (BTW, I wish Sierra would return to the old days where
their massive bugs would just do something harmless like crash the
game, rather than the new ones which inconspicuously halt game
progress with no outward signs of failure ... GRRRRRR >:-( )

I extracted the patch in my GK2 directory, and it said my old save
games wouldn't work. So I extracted the new save games, and when I
try to load any of them it says "wrong version". Stupidly, the game
menu only gives options for "restore" and "quit" (no restart!).

So is there anything I can do, or should I exercise Sierra's Return
Policy?

My program crashed last time I tried to send this...does that mean
something?
You wrote about chapter 4 bugs. The bug is only in Windows and it
happens when Grace tries to talk to Gerde. Not getting the fax is NOT
the bug...that is due to your need to have 360 points before Gerde will
tell you the fax is at the post office in town...and she does it just
as Grace walks in, so if you clicked through that scene, you may have
just missed it.

Try using the Win-95 autoload feature. Then you can use the saved games
Sierra supplies with the patch.

I'm about to excersize the return policy. I have the exact same
problem and I called Sierra today. The tech said I should unload the
game. Re-install, load the patch, then load the save games. Well
guess what...it still wont let you re-start any of the save games. I
even made a long dist call to their BB and downloaded straight from
them. The save games there say specifically they will only work after
the patch. Still no go.

Anyone else?

If you are running the windows95 version, you need to start the game using
the autoplay feature with disk 1. That will let you use the "patched"
saved games. If you're running the DOS version, I don't know what to
do.

I had the same game problem to after installing the patch.

I decided to just start again, even though I was nearly at the end of
chapter four it didn't take long to get back to where I was, probably
about hmmm 40minutes from start to chapter four.

It's worth doing again to see chapter 5 and 6 and the ending, chapter
5 and 6 have some excellent moments, specially the wolf scenes and the
opera.
