I finished Ripper, and it was a great game. At first, I wasn't really
getting into it, mostly because it was buggy as hell under Windows 98 (since
this is an old DOS game). But somehow, miraculously, the bugs and kinks
went away and I was actually able to play the game without much hassle. And
once that happened, I really got pulled into the story. The puzzles were
tremendously hard though. I did use the walkthrough for a few of them.
Although I did solve a few myself.

But I was wondering what the 4 different endings are like. And
specifically, how does the game play differently for these 4 different
endings? Are there different scenes and clues you get to see for each of
the 4 scenarios? Or is it just a different killer each time with the same
clues? Also do your actions determine which ending you will see?

It really wasn't made clear to me who the killer was at the end, except for
the fact that killing that person was the only way to not get killed. But I
did guess the killer's identity on the first try, even though it was a
guess. I had evidence which pointed to 2 people...but I really wasn't aware
of a deciding factor as to who it really was. So did I miss something
maybe? Also there was somebody at the end who I never even suspected
throughout the whole game...so I can only assume that this person is the
killer in one of the alternate endings. And thinking about it now, I can
see how this person might have done it...although this really would have
made this person twisted. And I think they would have had to present us
with different clues and scenes to account for this person's guilt. BTW,
the person I am talking about is...SPOILER ALERT....

...Cathryn. She was in the end sequence, and since she was supposedly in a
coma the whole time, it would mean that she faked the coma and attack and
has been killing people through the Hospital computer terminal. It would
also mean she was somehow linked the original murder 15 years ago, which
would make her older than she seems...unless she was acting on revenge!!!
In the ending I saw, she says at the end that Josie (who died 15 years ago
in the first Ripper VR game), was her mother. So maybe she found out about
the Webrunners and this game, and she snapped. So she decided to kill all
the original Webrunners, to make sure she would get revenge on the killer.
Maybe that is what happens in her alternate ending...can somebody back this
up who has seen this ending?

BTW, the person who was the real murderer in my ending was the detective.
So if anybody has seen the other endings (especially the Cathryn ending), I
am curious to know what happened in those endings (i.e. what different
scenes and clues were presented to the player).

I played the last chapter twice and came up with two different endings.
A friend of mine came up with a third. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty
sure the killer is random, same clues.

Actually, Acts I and II are exactly the same each time you play, but Act III
can be different (although not stunningly different) each time you play. I
think it depends solely on the order in which you do things. I think I've
managed to see three different killers (endings). The dialogue is what varies.
For example....

SPOILER

In the ending where I got Catherine as the killer, I was in her brain talking
to her and the first indication I got that she was really the killer was where
she mentioned something about Farley having been fired, although she couldn't
possibly have known this unless she was involved--no one had told her, and yet
she slipped up that she knew. All three endings I got gave different dialogue
responses in Act III. For me, it was fun trying to do certain tasks first so
as to manipulate the ending.
