I took the CD back and got the store to repalce it, only to get the
exact same problem again - on two different computers! Needless to
say, I no longer view this as my problem, but some huge colossal bug.
Im therefore wondering if theres any solution to this problem,
anything I can do to actually install the thing? Or do I have to
return it to the store, sight unseen?
Actually, is there any chance I could get the makers to replace the
CD, I dont want to have to go through some horrible process every time
I want to install the game (and since I reinstall Win98 every 3-6
months, thats gonna be pretty frequent)
Any help GREATLY appreciated.

There's troubleshooting information for Outcast here
http://www.outcast-thegame.com/support/faqs.htm#installation
and here

Also I think somebody in this newsgroup reported that exiting the
installation just before it finishes keeps Outcast from deleting itself.
