I know it's an old game, but I'm just getting around to
playing it. I was stuck for some time, and kept getting killed in
Vienna. So eventually I gave up and searched the web for a
walkthrough. I had been up on the roof of the train, but hadn't
figured out to break the roof window on the private car, as the
walkthroughs indicated. I rewound to before the concert, and made
sure everything was in place as required by the walkthrough (most of
which I had already done, except trading the bug for the whistle with
the young boy). I went for to the concert and sat for a while, and
waited for Kahina to leave, then return. I then made my way to the
roof. Guess what--no wonder I didn't figure out to break the roof
window. There doesn't seem to be a way to do so. There's no way to
access the inventory while on the train roof, and all I get are
movement arrows no matter where I point the cursor. And I've explored
every square inch of the train roof.
Obviously, this is getting very frustrating. Does anyone
remember if there is some trick to this that I'm not getting? None of
the walkthroughs indicate such. Hopefully, someone will know the
answer, but if worst comes to worst, can anyone create a save file
(egg file) for me for right after breaking the glass, and before
jumping down into the private car. Needless to say, I will forever be
at the service of anyone who can help me out of this predicament. As
well as posting here, you can also send replies to me at
aws...@aol.com. Thanks much!!!

Er...you click on it during the concert and smash it with your foot

I am on the roof during the concert. There is nowhere on the
entire roof for me to click. If I click anywhere, I simply move in
that direction--as stated in my post, the cursor never changes from a
movement arrow, either forward, backward, reverse, and in a very few
places on the roof, up or down. I'm assuming that the window in the
roof is one of the eight windows (four facing each direction) on the
raised portion of the last car. And believe me, I've tried putting
the cursor on every possible pixel on all eight windows, not to
mention on just about every other pixel on the entire roof of the
train. The cursor never changes from a movement cursor.

Hang on a second...you aren't holding the Firebird are you? If so the
hotspot won't register, you can only carry the Firebird OR the
briefcase at once - so it won't let you in.

Spoiler

I don't remember any special trick. I clipped this from a walkthrough...
Use the ladder to climb up to the roof of the train. Turn around and walk
to the back of the train along the roof. When you get to the glass roof of
the Private Car (you should hear the concert), smash it. Jump down into
Kronos's privatebedroom.
If the roof is not breackable, you may be missing some other thing you
need, or the time might not be right.
I also have hints at www.uhs-hints.com

I'm not holding the Firebird (I assume you mean the golden
egg?). I have it stowed in the trunk in my compartment, which I also
have locked. I don't think it's even possible to get to the roof
carrying anything, as you can't access the key to unlock one of the
side doors.

Richard: are you using the above paragraph in the way of quoting people's
messages instead of not quoting peoples messages at all as you used to

I think you just have to put your cursor on the glass part of the
cart, and you'll do fine. It's an old game, but it is still one of
the most talked about games here. Don't give up, the ending is worth
it.

I think I am just about ready to give up. I have tried
EVERYTHING both on and off the roof. No matter what I do, once I get
back on the roof during the concert, the cursor never changes from a
movement cursor, no matter where I position it. I'm thinking that
there might be some sort of technical conflict between my machine and
the game that is preventing the game from displaying the magnifying
glass cursor while I'm on the roof of the train. At any rate, I spent
one day getting to that point in the game, and I've spent several days
trying to get past it. I've even located a walkthrough that has times
listed, and I've followed it to the letter. Still no luck. I've
played LOTS of adventure games (The Neverhood, Myst, Riven, Obsidian,
Curse of Monkey Island, etc.), and never had a problem I couldn't get
through, usually without a walkthrough (Obsidian was the big exception
to not needing a walkthrough--great game, but man were those puzzles
tough).
For now, I'm going to set Last Express aside. I have tons of
unplayed games. I think I'm going to try Dark Earth next. If anyone
has any other ideas, or is willing to play through the game up to the
point where the glass has been broken, and send me the .egg file, let
me know. Thanks to everyone who posted replies!

It's not hard to find out with the exact same paragraph all the time. You
need a change.
