Hi everyone.

I just bought a copy of Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood for PC. I
installed it on my computer which has more than the recommended system
requirements for the game. The game requires DirectX 8.1, and my
computer has DirectX 9.0c, but whenever I try to start the game, an
error comes up, saying "Please install a newer version of DirectX."

My computer has 500 Mhz, approx. 256 MB RAM, a 64 MB GeForce4 MX 4000
video card, and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (32 bit) with
Service Pack 1.

I searched for a patch on the internet, and found two; I tried them and
they didn't fix the problem.

If anyone has a solution, please let me know - thanks.

Btw., does W2K3 server have the wga annoyance?

Maybe the security settings on a W2K3 server prohibit the game running.
What sense makes running a enterprise server on a 500 MHz pc?

A legit copy of XP or maybe even win98?

Did you put on the green tights that come in the box?

Dumb joke aside, I'm not sure that Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition is the right version of Windows for that hardware. Try XP.

I don't have a solution for you (although a server edition doesn't
sound like the most game-optimised version of windows), but I've
played the game (and loved it), and I've never had any problem
whatsoever with it, while many other games tend to crash on my
machine (1.53 GHz win2000).

Start | Run <type in> dxdiag <enter> see what it's got to say.

Why are you using an Enterprise Server for games?

Since when does that make a difference? He needs SP2 or the
software is so old he needs an old computer to run it.

Since almost forever.

Background/Foreground processes for one. A server is more interested in
getting things done than drawing pretty pictures. Another point to the
question, it isn't all that likely an enterprise admin is asking for this
kind of help, they're generally more concerned with keeping their jobs, so
50 bucks and my right nut says that this is a cracked installation, in which
case what damage to the OS has the crack made? Might that be why it doesn't
work?

Windows Server 2003 is a different operating system than Windows XP or
2000 or 98. Because you said "the software is so old he needs an old
computer to run it," I think you're confusing an old computer used as a
server and an operating system meant to be installed on a server.
