-- Lands of Lore --
"What does the Draracle want?"
Either a jeweled dagger, or a silver goblet. You will only find
one of the two items while in the maze.
"The slug at the entrance of the mine is too strong"
1. Use the green skull. (Most effective)
2. Keep throwing stuff (weapons) at the slug, doing little damage
every time you hit. You will eventually kill it. (Requires brawn)
3. Have the slug chase you into one of the two entrances to the mine.
When the slug is right next to you, next the mine. Now go through
the swamp and arrive at the OTHER entrance. Quickly go in through
the door where the slug was, and close it. You may have to fight
the slug on the way out of the mine, however. (Requires brain)
"In the mines, there is a stairway that is filled with water."
First, you need to pick up two things: a piece of coal (which can
be obtained by using a mining pick to break off a certain wall
in the maze), and a piece of wheel gear. Put the coal into the
machine (on entrance), place the gear onto its position, and turn
on the machine. Once it operates, the water in the stairway will
be gone.
"On level 4 of the mines, I can't find the two keys to open the last door"
Of the the keys is on Orin's ghost. You will need a mining pick
to open up a caved-in hallway (northwest corner of map)
"I can't seem to go down further into the mine"
The teleporter at the end of the hallway on level 1 can get you
to two locations. Try rearranging the wheel to activate the
teleporter.
"The snakes on level 4 are too strong"
You will have to hack them to pieces. However, there is an
alternative way to get to level 4. On level 1 where the teleporter
is located (see above), when you press a button on the wall to
the side of the teleporter, a pit will open up. Drop into the pit,
and you will find another pit. Keep falling until you get to
level 4. You are now in the room with the teleporter on level 4
(the teleporter gets you to the entrance), having avoided most of
the snakes.
"How do I break Scotia's barrier"
Use the Vaelan's cube. Side note: You can replicate Vaelan's cube
by replacing one of your character's weapon hand with the cube.
When you use the cube, another one appears on your mouse pointer.
Thus you have one cube (held on weapon hand) and another on your
mouse pointer.
"I can't get into two locked rooms in Yvel."
One of the boarded-up houses in the south-eastern part of the
city can be opened. In it is a key that will allow you to enter
one of the two locked rooms, and in that room, you will find
another key to open the other locked room.
"What is the 'ring' required in the niche in level one of White Tower"
You need the amber ring, located in a secret niche where the
prisoner is located.
"I can't kill the ghosts on level three of White Tower"
1. Use Vaelan's cube. This is the most effective way.
2. If you have already used the cube to break the second Scotia's
barrier, and you didn't clone it, then you must hack away
at the ghosts using the emerald swords found earlier in the
game. (There are two). These swords are the most effective
weapon.
"What are the 4 buttons along the long hallway on level 3 of White Tower"
They have no important use. Pressing the buttons on the ends
will cause a one-eyed chicken monster to appear at either of the
two dead ends.
"One of the doors says 'You have no faith'. How do I get in?"
You need to go to the sub-level of the Tower. To do this, you
need a key held by Jana, Queen of the Amazons. Use the key
to open up the locked door in level three. Get the ivory key
and use it to open the western locked door on level one.
In the sub-level, insert the four moving objects into the niches,
and then enter through the hallway. You will encounter a woman
there, and you will obtain the 'faith'.
"I have the ingredients for the elixir, but what do I do with it"
On level one of the White Tower, there is an altar. Place the
'faith' onto the middle candle, and pour your ingredients into it.
"The shape-shifting Scotia (as Dawn) took Dawn's key. What now"
Load your last saved game. When the author first played
the game, in Level one of Castle Cimmeria I obtained
a Dawn's key from one of the wraiths, and thus I had two
Dawn's keys. However, upon playing a second time, I
did not get it; hence, perhaps it is luck or randomness
that I was able to get two Dawn's keys, but don't you
count on it. Don't give your key to Scotia.
"In the Catwalk Caverns, there is a replicator. How do I use it?"
You must trap the sparks into the ends of the three hallways.
Effective way is to use the dark gauntlet to 'push' these
sparks into the trap. Make sure the button is depressed.
(Also, if you wait long enough, eventually the sparks will
become trapped by its wandering, but don't count on it)
When all THREE lights are lit, then you can replicate any
item once. I suggest replicating a guardian (or crossbow
Valkyrie if two characters use projectile weapons)
BTW, you do NOT need to replicate the yellow key. You will
find the second key needed to enter the door on the south-east
corner somewhere else in the maze.
"Which monster should I champion?"
If you champion as the brain-looking monster, you will have an
easier time killing the enemies. In the end, you will receive
a gift, which raises all three of your characters one level
advance in magic. If you champion as the octopus-looking monster,
you will have a hard time fighting the enemy (they throw fireballs)
and in the end your characters will receive one level advance in
fighting.
BTW, you will receive the key to continue to Castle Cimmeria
after you finish off the enemy. Fighting both types of monsters
is not recommended.
"How do I enter through the two doors located north on the map of level
one in Castle Cimmeria"
These doors do not open all the time. Before trying anything,
save the game. Now stand in front of the left door. Throw
your Vaelan's cube, and it should hit the button on the wall,
thus opening the door. If it opens, pick up the cube, back up
your steps and face the right door. Try throwing the cube again
to hit the button on the wall. The method appears to work
infrequently, but it can be done. If either door does not open
(e.g. you can't throw the cube) then you may restore the game and
try once again. There is nothing interesting there anyway,
except for an 'ornate decoration' which, according to one person,
'great sword called doom can be obtained by clicking on it twice,'
but the author could not replicate nor confirm this.
"How do I free Dawn trapped in the crystal ball?"
Give her what all women (ok, most women) want in real life-
a diamond. She doesn't help you at all - in fact, you do not
need to rescue her to finish the game. I kept the diamond
to myself. heh heh
"I can't open the door that says 'It appears to be stuck.'"
You can't open the door. Every time you try to open the door,
several wraiths appear and attack you.
"I can't open the door near the west end, where the weird-looking
constantly clamping door is located"
You can't open the door. A red herring, perhaps. No known
way to open this door.
"On level two of Castle Cimmeria near the room with the spinners, there
is a hallway that has two pits. How do I close both of them"
First, press TWICE either of the two buttons located on the
wall next to the first pit. The first pit will close. Now,
press the two buttons so that both of them are depressed.
Walk over and stand before the second pit, and drop something
useless into it (as if you were dropping onto the floor).
The second pit will close, thus allowing you passage.
"Help, I've lost my map and my compass, and there are spinners everywhere"
Well, this will show you how valuable your map and compass are!
Walk around until you have all FOUR pressure plates depressed.
Now, on the southern part of the spinner room there are two
secret passages. (Keep bumping into walls) One passageway
contains a niche with the Dragon figurine, and the other
passageway gets you to level three. Don't worry - your map
and your compass will reappear, but you are on your own in
the spinner room.
"How do I get the key to open up the room into King Richard?"
You must first throw an item and hit the button on the wall.
A teleporter will appear, and now you must throw another item
into the teleporter to close the pit. Enter the teleporter,
and you can pick up the red carrion key.
"Where is the (cobra, dragon, unicorn, humanoid) figurine"
There is one figurine per level in Castle Cimmeria.
Cobra is level one, in a niche.
Dragon is level two, in a niche.
Unicorn is level three, in a chest.
Humanoid is level four, in a niche.
"What do I do with the Shard of Truth that King Richard gives me"
Combine it with the Ruby of Truth. Put one into your
inventory slot, then select it again with the other using
the mouse pointer. You will now get the Whole Truth,
which is used to prevent Scotia from transforming.
"What does the plaques on level 4 of Cimmeria mean?"
They mean what they mean - on the southwestern corner,
you must drop onto the floor whatever the plaque says.
On the southeastern corner, you must get the 'sum' correct-
look carefully at the map, it will say 1 + 1 = 3. By pressing
buttons, you can change the '3' into a '2', thus opening
a passageway where the plaque was.
"How do I kill the frogs on level 4 of Cimmeria"
Most effective way is to use projectile weapons and keep backing
up as you fire them. Another interesting way is to find a
circular hallway, where you can keep moving around and around,
in clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Use a projectile
and fire one round, and then move away from the corner.
As the frog comes by again in your sight, fire. Move back
and repeat. This method also works while fighting Scotia, or
for any monster for that matter. You can also use the constantly
firing projectiles (from the walls) - Lure the frog right in
front of it and just stand there while the frog keeps getting hit.
"What do I do with the Shard of Truth"
Use it. Click on it when you first encounter Scotia (immediately
after dialogue). Now hack away at her.
Tips and opinions from the author:
1. Crossbow 'Valkyrie' is a powerful weapon. Have one character use it
ALL the time. Your lockpicking abilities will increase at a faster
rate, plus it is useful in fighting tough monsters - walk back and
shoot.
2. There is no "Ice Wall" or "Vortex" spells, or rather it has not been
found. "Hands of Fate", however, can be found in one of the two locked
rooms in Yvel.
3. 'Heal IV' is a very useful defensive spell; 'Mist of Doom IV' is a
very useful offensive spell. Strive to get magic levels (one character)
as soon as possible.
4. Don't clutter your inventory with a lot of oils - you don't really need
them, since your map shows hidden buttons.
5. You don't need much money - the 3000 crowns needed for 'wunderbar'
(Victor at Yvel) is not worth it. Great sword Justice is worth its
price, however.
6. Save often. :-)
