Are there any games that pull off the above? I like Horror, Scifi,
Mystery, Politics. I've played a lot of the big games like Last Express,
Sanitarium, Circle of Blood, Blade Runner, Amber, etc. I really liked
these games, but this was the first game that really grabbed me
completely. I've played the first area of Sins of the Fathers but didn't
care much for the graphics, pretty primative, like earlier Kings Quest or
something. I guess I've been spoiled. I'm assuming I'm going to have to
wait for this summer's GK3.

You might try Black Dahlia. I found it to have a very deep immersive story.
Brad
You might like 'Phantasmagoria', 'Laura Bow:Dagger of Amon Ra', 'Shivers2'
or 'Harvester'.
The Tex Murphy's are good too, try 'The Pandora Directive' or 'Overseer'.
That should keep you busy until GK3.

Oh, Robert, NO! How could you possibly suggest either Shivers 2 or
Harvester as worthy successors to The Beast Within? I thought Shivers 2
to be little more than slider puzzle crap with some torturous and
pointless timed sequences, while Harvester was simply laughably bad.
Although I've always felt the Tex Murphy series tends to be overrated,
at least TPD and Overseer have a similar style to The Beast Within.
Phantasmagoria is also similar, but plays (if that's the right word for
what virtually amounts to an FMV slideshow) even worse.
Unfortunately, while they are several games that resemble The Beast
Within in terms of type, none of them are anywhere near as good. Black
Dahlia was okay, but I wouldn't want to be held responsible for actually
recommending it to anyone.
Agreed on your last point, though. Perhaps the original poster should
just wait until GK3.

Take care and good luck.

IMO, it was the most overrated adventure game I've
ever played. But if you like sci-fi mystery thrillers
then get Pandora Directive, it's much better done:
the mystery aspect is better, it's more sci-fi
than GK2,and it's puzzles are much much more varied
and infinitely more interesting and logical.
Another classic I recommend is Indiana Jones:
Fate of Atlantis. Those are my two favourite
adventure games ever.
Don't settle for second rate!
RayO
Oh well. Take care and am looking forward to GK3.
