Like several people here, I have had problems with GK2 crashing. I
logged on to sierra's Web site and sent them mail regarding the
problem. I'm posting my message and thier response even though there
is only a little more that is new over what has already been posted.
I haven't tried thier fix in resource.ini yet so i don't know it works
but will post if it does.

Message to Sierra and response follows:

GO>Gabriel Knight 2 is crashing. It happens at the same point each
time.
GO>It is in chapter 4. I have been to the castle, and both museums
GO>and Grace has made up with Gerde. After returning from the
museums,
GO>I go to the Gasthof (sp) and talk again to the Smiths. After this
GO>I return to Schloss Ritter. I attempt to talk to Gerde and the
GO>program starts like she is going to talk. A 'Panic' dialog box
GO>comes up and shows the following error:

GO>Out of memory=1031132 bytes requested, Type=Decompression_Buffer,
GO>Num=0,attributes=8024e avail mem=837108
GO>Script 64998(dcd0)

GO>At this point in the game, I have 323 out of 679 points.

GO>It has crashed before when I talked to Gerde at this same point
GO>in the game. The first time I went through the chapter, I went
GO>to the two museums first and then the castle. I returned to
GO>town, talked to the Smiths and went back to Schlos Ritter,
GO>tried to talk to Gerde and crashed. Unfortunately and I didn't
GO>copy the error message then. I restored from a little earlier
GO>in the same sequence and lingered in town a little more and
GO>returned to Schloss Ritter and sucessfully talked to Gerde.
GO>All she said at this point was that there were no messages
GO>from Gabriel. I was (and am) stuck at this point with 323
GO>points and no more people to talk to and have been back to the
GO>castle and museums at least four times to make sure I have
GO>clicked on everything and talked everybody possible.

GO>I decided to restart the chapter. Actually I restarted after
GO>Grace and Gerde made up and redid the castle and museums in a
GO>different order (castle, then museums), then came back to town,
GO>talked to the Smiths, returned to Schloss Ritter, tried to talk
GO>to Gerde and crashed with the above error. Here I also have 323
GO>points.

GO>I don't think I've missed anything and my understanding is I
GO>should be hearing back from Barkley by now (I called him in Chapter
2).
GO>I put this in just in case it sheds some light on how the
GO>software is acting, not looking for any free hints :-). I was
GO>just speculating if when I talk to Gerde, she would have Barkleys
GO>message or something at this point in the game.

GO>I may not have registered yet butv the game was purchased at
GO>CompUSA on April 20. Don't know if this helps with the rev
GO>number or not but I thought I'd throw that in.

GO>Thanks very much for any help you can give!

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Gabriel Knight 2.
Please download the patch for the game called GK2PAT.EXE
in file library #02 on the Sierra BBS. This patch will make you have
to
start over at the beginning.

What you can try to do if you don't want to start over is edit the
RESOURCE.INI File in the Gabriel knight2 directory and add
the line:

SciMaxK=7000

This may help get past that part without having to restart or use
the patch disk.

If problems persist, you may want to try downloading our
troubleshooting document for the
software from our bbs called GK2TS.TXT in file library #06
or on the Sierra Web site in the Technical Support Documents
area. Contact the bbs at (206) 644-0112 and the web site at
WWW.SIERRA.COM.
