Kyrandia II: Hand of Fate

I am stuck in HOF. I need to know how to do two things:
1) How do you make the trance potion? I have the wrapper (with? artificial
Newt eyes), the orange peel & the salt water. What else do I need to make
the potion?
2) What do you do on Mustard Island? I always get thrown in the pot and
then die. Can you do anything while you are in the pot?

Since you can't find EyeOfNewt in this game, you can't make the trance
potion. Someone already has done this and you've got to make the Sceptic
Potion ...

You can feed something to the cannibals, but you're not supposed to be at
this island. Go and find Volcania ... (Did you see who is steering the
ship?)

PC Review CD. I know that I can at least solve some of the puzzles, but I'm
currently stumped, and could use some help.
I think that I can play as far as getting the gold before the demo ends.
Anyway, I've got the water and bottle out of my home, picked up a few onions,
got a twisty root, got a bottle, plant food, stool from the toads house, got
all three glow-berries, got two blue-berries, and now I don't know what to do.
Oh yeh, and I've got a feather from the nest as well.
There's a swamp with a hand, but the hand grabs me and the key sinks. There's
two fishermen, but they wont accept the root if I try giving it to them, there's
the rat in the cave, but I can't find some cheese (or all the ingredients to
make a snake? potion [would that work?]). And there's a tree to the south with
bugs which just keep flashing and making noises when I touch them.
Can someone give a reasonable enough hint to get things rolling? E-mail
preferred.

If I remember correctly you do not need to make a light blue
potion. Your assumption above is not quite right. You might
try examining objects in the shelves that you haven't seen before
(hint: especially multi-colored ones).
If this doesn't nudge you in the right direction, email me and I
will be more direct.
} 2) Is it OK to use your spell book to create spell potions of different
} colours?
Not only OK, but the only way.

I was given the game. Would someone be so kind as to supply me
the hints given this gentleman to get me started. I don't have
epesode 1.
