o If T7G installs a configuration file that sets the volume, edit this
file and adjust the settings for speech and music.
o If T7G does not have a configuration file, then prepare a batch file
that calls SB16SET with appropriate values, then launches T7G.
Whichever one I did, I had to experiment with values until I hit on ones
that got the right balance between voice and music. It was tedious, but
I eventually came to regard this exercise as another one of Stauf's
puzzles. ;=)
Sorry I can't give an exact recipe. Hope this is helpful.

Hmm... How do you do this??? Using a hex editor or something???

/M:240 /VOC:255 /CD:150 /MIDI:180 /LINE:220
I don't remember having to adjust the CD and MIDI settings, but
apparently I did. Anyway, I do remember that once I got this set up I
had no more sound problems. You may need slightly different settings,
depending on what speakers you have and the quality of your hearing.

As I said in my first post, I don't remember if I balanced the volume via
the SB16SET program or in a configuration file that came with T7G. I
believe it was via SB16SET. If so, here's how.
If you look in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you will see a line like:
C:\SB16\SB16SET /M:220 /VOC:220 /CD:220 /MIDI:220 /LINE:220 /TREBLE:0
The installation procedure put it there. This line runs a mixer program
which sets the input and output volumes of the card. See Chapter 9 of
the SB16 User Reference Manual for the whole story. The first two
parameters, /M and /VOC, are the key. /M sets the master volume control,
and /VOC sets the voice volume control. Make sure the settings are
comparable to the ones in this line; these are the defaults. Run the
test program TESTB16 to make sure everything is indeed working, and the
pots on the back of the card and the speakers are adjusted to a
reasonable level.
Make a batch file containing the above line, using EDIT.
Run T7G and note what the problem is with the music and the voices. If
the voice is too loud, then reduce /VOC:220 to something smaller, like
/VOC:150. Run the batch program, then start T7G. If the voice is too
soft, increase the /VOC value. If you get to the maximum of 255 and the
voices are still too soft, leave it at 255 and start reducing the /M:220
value. Whichever way you need to go, just keep at it. Make sure that
when you are done the higher value is at least 200.
Like I said this is tedious. Remember to run the one-line batch program
each time for the change to take effect.
When you're satisfied, you can create the following batch program:
C:\SB16\SB16SET .....(as above, but with final settings)
T7G (or whatever the command is)
C:\SB16\SB16SET .....(original settings)
The last line is to restore default settings, which most other sound
things are happy with.
If there is actually a mixer setup created by T7G, then the settings in
that are what should be changed. (Need to start taking those memory
pills.) The idea is the same.
Hope this helps.

Oh well, I am still listing,

Set up t7g to use the SB16 (or SBPro2) for music, and plain SB for the
digital speech. If you have a later version of the setup program, it will
allow you to do this. Otherwise, directly edit the groovie.ini file. If you
do not know what to put in it, first look at it, then set up t7g for plain SB
for music and speech, look at the groovie.ini file again, and see what
changes were made.

Well, I did not try using the plain SB yet, but I was reading on the WWW Games
site that the problem was the Miles driver actually resets the SB16. It
recommends a patch for the driver... SO, I tried it. WOW! It worked! It
worked great! Here's what it said:
I had a similar problem in that I was unhappy with the relative
volume of the voice to the music. I found the driver re-initial-
ize the volume when it starts up so using SB16SET is of no use.
To get around this I patched the driver on mine to stop the init.
The driver being used was SBPDIG.ADV. At offset 49C in this
driver (59C if examined with debug) there was an OUT instruction
(hex EE) which was resetting the volume. I replaced this with a
NOP (hex 90) and could then preset the volume with SB16SET before
starting the game.
I have the patched fil on my ftp site for those who are not able to edit their
Miles driver. All I did was as described above on the SBPDIG.ADV file. The
patch is located at: io.com
Change directory to: /pub/usr/cruella
The file name is: t7th_fix.zip
This zip file can be uncompressed with pkunzip or the like... It contains
this message (more or less) and the patched driver!
Well, maybe this will help someone have a little less pains than I have had
getting this dude to work! Let me know if you are having trouble getting
the patched file.

Here is a procedure I followed and which worked perfectly for me. This
is from the T7G FAQ:
10) The Sound Blaster 16 volume problem fix has been confirmed by
Shahen Petrosian (sha...@prodnet.la.locus.com). The problem with the
volume levels of the music and digital audio is due to the
AIL/DigiPack sound card drivers. r...@crosfield.co.uk (Bob Tidey)

If your driver is different then the code may be at a different
address. If so I could give info on the surrounding instructions
to help find the offending sequence.[1]
