Hi,
I'm playing STS (the first one) and quite enjoying it. There are many
things I need to do I haven't done yet and that's hunkydory, things
have been falling into place gradually. The thing is I've located the
Druid and need to help him escape and I can't get out of that place
because my map doesn't work and what I'm worried about is, what if the
reason is because I'm here before I "should" be, i.e., what if I need
something in my inventory to effect his escape but I don't have it
yet? I can see this could be possible as there are many things I
don't have I would have if I only knew how to get them, e.g., I don't
have any wood yet which I might be carrying wood worms around on,
well, I'm going to list what I do have in my inventory (other than
basic stuff like map)
Let me refresh your memory if it's been a while. I arrived in this
place by box (from the store) which was supposed to have groceries in
it (this after I gave the employee(s) a shopping list) and using the
old paper/key trick (shades of AITD2 and Phantas and many others no
doubt) got into a jail/dungeon area.
Even though I'm invisible I can't get past the guard. Now the
revolting thing about this guard is that he's chewing and keeps on
removing things from his mouth that look like leeches (ugh), which put
me in mind of my pals who I've been unable to help yet (on the stump
in the forest). My instinct is that the trick to getting past him has
to do with the baby eels (?) sliding out of his mouth but it's
probably something else, I've probably got to do something to make him
get out of his chair but I tried the sousaphone and it wouldn't work
..
Downstairs is the Druid and it turns out that he won't be able to
escape until he turns himself into a frog and in order to do that he
needs to have moonlight (streaming into the room? -- from open door or
through the bars in the window, but I can't open the door...)
That's where things stand, I can't leave and can't get beyond the
guard (well, not necessarily "can't," rather don't know how to yet).
MY INVENTORY
spellbook
paper/key
scissors
magnet
wooden bucket (witche's house)
metal bucket w/hole (just got)
sousaphone
ladder
fire extinguisher
ring
rat bone (just got)
matches
beard
mints
placard (from bridge troll)
Unfortunately I haven't been keeping notes but I'll try to recall
things that have come up I haven't been equipped to deal with yet
I helped the woodperson but I don't have any wood yet for my worm pals
I got one item in his house but didn't notice any spare wood around
and maybe it was there I extinguished the fire in the hearth and
possibly for nothing since I couldn't get up the chimney and there's
a hook there for what purpose I know not
I don't have coins yet (I know where they are!) so can't buy anything
or use the fruit machine at the tavern (if it's even possible)
I wonder what the "gruesome" statue's relevance is
In the unpopular little guy's (the stew maker) house I found the trap
door but haven't gotten anywhere since I haven't solved the loose
plank problem yet
Dwarves mine -- unexplored as I need a password...
In my house there are some "suspicious herbs" I couldn't reach
Beehive -- a mystery
House w/ choc truff door -- am keeping an eye out for truffles on the
roads but so far not so good (this because I was unsuccessful in
eating any chocolate)
Somewhere I saw a weird tree and I can't find it now, I don't remember
what was going on there either, I just want to look at the tree
again because it seems to me there was unfinished biz
Witch -- met up with her at the beginning and unfortunately went
into her house once too often as I wasn't ready yet for the
match of wits and now I can't get back in
I didn't really *do* anything in the saloon but talk -- oh, the
wizards wanted a wand I think, I don't have that, well I
wanted to use the fruit machine but no money
I cut the beard off the little dwarf
I kept ordering drinks and the barman would disappear for suspiciously
long periods of time leading me to think I was supposed to use those
moments but I didn't think of anything to do, however there's a beer
barrel in back of him but after he was standing and I'd finished
ordering those drinks it didn't show up using my pointer, that's the
only item my pointer did alight on
There are all these items at the store I covet but can't get -- and
I think they need to go to the bathroom so maybe I don't need money
maybe I only need to get them to leave the room?
I'm sure there are many more things left to do but that's all that
comes to mind at the moment.
So, what I want to know is basically am I ill-equipped as I am now
(considering my inventory situation and that I can't use the
spellbook) to either (1) help the Druid and/or (2) get past the guard?
If yes to both, then I figure I'll have to go back to a saved game (oh
lord).
I don't want any spoilers, I just want to know if I shouldn't be in
the dungeon yet and if that's the case (ay ay ay, so much to redo)
maybe a wee hint about what must have befallen me or what I must needs
have accomplished before I get all packed in (and I don't even
remember where I got that shopping list!) would be lovely. If I do
have what it takes to help the poor old guy out then ... oh, I'd love
a hint, but not a very revealing one, something quite vague.
Thanks for your trouble,
Trina
Hi, Ana Isabel,
Thank goodness you wrote!
>Have you convinced the druid you are not a demon?
Yes, that I've done.
> If you have then you need
>a full moon o anything that might appear to be a full moon, ay bright
>circle against a background of black will work.
Well, I was kind of pursuing this route as I've got the metal bucket
on his head and can't get it off although frankly I wasn't thinking of
the hole corresponding to ... the full moon, he was just getting on my
nerves and I was playing around seeing as how it's a torture chamber
and he's manacled and one thing led to another ...
>Do you have the flaming brand?
No. I've been thinking in terms of the color white and trying to
shove a mint in the bucket hole to no avail of course. I'm getting an
idea of the sort of thing you're getting at only I must have missed
something. There's the row of sharp pointed things and a bowl of hot
coals but I can't use anything on it as no words appear when I pass my
pointer over it. Sounds like I either need to change from my glasses
to my contacs or go pixil hunting! Wonderful, I'm sure I'll be out of
this mess in a jiffy.
Thank you so very much!
Trina
