Folks,
I'm having a severely annoying problem with Starship titanic, and I'm
curious if anyone else has the problem:

BUTTONS DISSAPEAR FROM MY PET!!!

For example, if I need to grab something from my inventory, the inventory
might not be there!

Or, I got stuck in the bottom of the well because there was no CALL button
on the remote.

Or, I can't summon a BOT because the Chat-O-Mat won't work.

What's going on?!?!??!!

Please respond by E-mail, if possible to tonyphillips @ ti.com.

Do you know you have scroll buttons to scroll left and right through your
inventory?

When you are in front of a working elevator and that is selected in the correct
view on your PET (there are 4 views I think?) You should have a call button.
Not all the elevators work.

In some locations you cannot summon a BOT. Move out of your location (ie into a
hallway) and try again.

I have read a lot of postings on this game as well as completely played it
myself and the problems you describe are unknown problems to me.

No, it doesn't show arrows, or even empty "Cells." Just a blank
PET.

Right, and when you are, the REMOTE shows a little picture of what you're
able to control. My PET doesn't show ANYTHING, not even empty icons.

I'm not talking about not being able to Summon a BOT, the Chat-O-Mat doesn't
even have a PICTURE of the bots on them.

You should look back through the posts on here and send an e-mail to the
Digital Village. They've been helpful on getting bugs fixed.

Your's I've never seen or heard about. I personally have never encountered any
problems with the game.

If you have 3d card there is a patch at their web site which may help...
www.starshiptitanic.com. You can also get tech help there.

Yeah, I posted a bug report on their website. I havn't heard a peep.

Yesterday I found a new bug. Every time I go into a LIFT, a "room number"
appears in the upper left corner of the screen when I face Nobby. And the
Customizable Room Number part of my PET malfunctions, and when I hilight a
room, it dissappears instead of telling me what room it is.

This game is pretty sad...

I don't think the PET is supposed to show the room every time you go to one...
you need to click the big chevron to show your current location.

Not too sure what the problem is... explain again.

Go to www.dejanews.com and do a search for tdv.com and you'll see one of the
programmer's e-mail addresses. Send the bugs there... they can help
you...they've done so on here in the past.

Give the game some time...think you will like it.

This all sounds pretty strange, but it might just be worth trying to
reinstall the game (occasionally we have had bizarre problems that have
fixed themselves when a reinstallation occurs).

If this does not work, I would suspect it is more likely to be dodgy CD's
than a true bug.

I've reinstalled COUNTLESS times. Let me give you a run-down on the
problems
I've had to-date

General Problem- PET malfunctions
Stuck in the Basement because the Remote Thingummy goes blank so I can't
press the CALL button for the elevator.
Sometimes can't SEND or RECEIVE with the SUC-U-BUS because the buttons
aren't
there.
Can't talk effectively to bots because the Chat-o-Mat goes blank.
Sometimes while talking, the mat goes blank, but they still respond to
what I
type, even though what I type and what they reply does NOT appear on
the screen.
Inventory items go blank when left mouse button is clicked on them.
Can't save/load/exit because all of the buttons in the Real Life pane
dissappear
These don't happen all the time, or simultaneously, but often WHEN THEY'RE
NEEDED MOST.
If I'm able to move between scenes during these malfunctions, some
functions that were
malfunctioning sometimes get restored.

General Problem- Graphic malfunctions
Levers on statues are not visible when looking directly at them.
While looking at nobby, one of those Chevron things appears in the corner
of the
screen (upper left to be precise)
Hourglass doesn't change back to an arrow after some scene changes. Have
to "minimize"
titanic and swap back.
Titania doesn't have holes open in her face (for lack of a better word.)

General Problem- Sound Problems
Sound stutters excessively (always voice, seldom music)
Dialogue will quit prematurely, "Bing Bong- We regret to announce
that...." and
nothing else.

System Setup:
Pentium 233 MHz on Tekram P5T30-B4 Motherboard
Jaton Video-60P (Cirrus Chipset) 2MB Video Card
US Drives 24x MAX CD-ROM
WD 2.5 gig HD
48 Megs RAM
Yamaha Sound Card

The DirectX info says every part of my system is Certified except for the
sound driver (but the sound problems don't cause malfunctions, just
annoyances).
Every CD I own loads okay, Audio CD's play fine. What's a dodgy CD?

It does sound like the most likely reason for your problems is a defective
or dirty CD.

A fingerprint or scratch on a CD can stop it working properly.
Occasionally, CDs are manufactured with defects which cause them to fail.
A defect might only affect a small portion of the data on the CD, though, so
it can affect the program in any number of weird and awful ways. If you
notice that it only ever goes wrong when one particular CD is in your drive,
then this also would indicate a faulty CD.

There are 2 possible solutions to a CD problem:
1) Look for any dirt or fingerprints on the shiny (non-printed) side of all
the CDs - hold them up towards a light, and look across the surface. If you
see any smudges, use a soft damp cloth and _gently_ wipe the CD from the
center outwards.

2) You could have a scratched or defective CD - Take your package back to
the shop, tell them that it doesn't work, and ask if they will swap it for
another one.

Hopefully this will fix your problems.

Jason,
That must have been the problem. I copied the CD's to the HD, and the
game
ran fine.

I question the software's abilities, though, if it cannot recover
from such a simple problem or notify the user that the problem exists. I
wasted countless hours on something that could have been mentioned,
"Your CD is not reading properly. Please check the disk or drive; consult
manual for details." Would have saved me a lot of anguish...
